Does anyone have any useful hints/tips for potty training please? What's the best way to go about it? I know it maybe a bit early, but I want Millie to be dry before LO comes along :) She seems to be quite advanced with most things, so don't think it'll be a problem. Just wanted some advice from anyone who's been there. Thanks :) x x

Can't see how old she is but i do know you shouldn't try and potty train until the child is dry through the night. That's s sign they have physically developed enough to begin to know tge cues for peeing. Umfortunately children can't learn this it's just a physical thing. Hope that helps x

Has she started to notice when she's wet or soiled? Will she tell you when she wants to be changed?

Get her used to seeing the potty around the house, so that she's not scared of it.

Start to sit her on it when changing her nappy or before going in the bath. Praise her if she does something but don't tell her off if she doesn't.

Don't use pull ups! They're a waste of money IMO! They still absorb the wee, although not as much as nappies, so the child doesn't get the feeling of being wet like they would in proper pants.

Titch, she does notice when she needs changing and sometimes tells us too. We already have the potty out for her to play with and she sits on it and says wee wee, as we've taught her what its for.

Thanks for your advise, that is a great idea about changing and bath time. Will start to try that today.

I have read about not using pull ups, so don't intend, even though my sister thinks I should and will get fed up with the washing, I know its the best way! x x

Verity, I read that LO being dry through the night is a sign they are ready to be potty trained through the night, not in general, thanks though x x

Will be watching this thread hun,
Tegan is roughly the same age and definatly not ready yet lol! We do have the potty out and she sits on it before bath and has done a couple of wees on it. I plan on trying properly when she's about 20 months x

Hi ZMD :) how's things? Definitely gonna try the before bed and when changing to see what happens, so exciting! All I can do is try, hopefully she's ready, if not will wait a few weeks and try again.

How old is Tegan now? Millie will be 18 months on 6th May :) x x

If she freaks, just leave it and try again a bit further down the line! If you push it, it will be harder next time you try!

I had a family that tried to train their daughter before she was ready, she got hysterical if we even mentioned trying for a wee. She still wasn't totally dry when she started school!

Oh dear, that's awful! No, I definitely won't push it hun, thanks :) x x

My daughter is dry through the day but still has a pull for bed time. It's just something she can't seem to crack :(

They are all different hun, the main thing is she's dry during the day. Have you tried asking a health visitor for advise maybe?

When did you start potty training? x x

Aw bless, Millie is the same :) she stands in it and sits her dolly's on it too :) So there's 8 days between them.

Things are good thanks, I am over the dreaded first 3 months pregnancy now, so feeling pretty good. Millie is running me ragid lol! She just doesn't sit still! x x

She's been dry since her 3rd birthday. I don't have an hv (long story) but I think I'll just have to start cutting down fluids after dinner time and see how we go. My mum said let her wet the bed and she'll soon catch on but I dunno xx

Cutting down the fluids definitely sounds like a good idea hun. Not sure about letting her wet the bed, it may work, seems a bit too much though. Maybe start a thread about it for some advice :) x x

I might do. To be honest though I haven't really tried anything in the hope she'd grow out of it so I might just look lazy lol xx

Of course not hun, it may be the best way to wait and see, but I would probably get some advice x x

Hey hon, is she wet at night but sleeping through it? If so then it's simply physiological. Children all progress at a different rate but eventually they'll just start bring dry through the night like adults. We dint choose not to wet the bed out bodies just know what to do. Children get to that place on their own and if she's only just past three that's not that old. Lots of children end up doing this much closer to their 4th birthday. I think being as relaxed as you have been and waiting for her to grow out of it is exactly tge right thing to do hon! You're doing a great job!
