HELP...im having a complete nightmare trying to potty train my little man, we have been trying for a few weeks now, sometimes he will sit on the potty/toilet other times he will scream blue muder till i take him off.

Has anyone got any useful tips? x x

ask him what he prefers the potty or toilet ? does he have a seat that goes on the toilet ? maybe have a sticker chart on the wall and every time he sits on the toilet he gets a sticker and every time he does a wee he gets a little sweet? worked wonders with my two. good luck :)

Thanks MrsE, i have tried these but i will keep persisting. Alot of people say it just clicks, did experiance this with your 2? x x

How old is he? I used to look after children at a nursery and some potty trained at 18 months, some weren't potty trained at 4 x every child is different. My main tips would be try potty training at a time that there's nothing else going on so he can just focus on potty training, praise and reward (make a huge deal of him) him when he goes on the potty/toilet and don't make a big deal when he's not wanting to do it.

My first 2 were so different. With no.1 i just decided "oh i'll potty train today" when she was just2. Bribed her with jelly beans - kept them in view and told her that they were for when she wee'd on her potty. Needless to say she was very eager and within a week she had got the idea. still had a nappy in bed approaching 4 :O

no 2 potty trained herself at about 18 months, night's and all. I cannot take any credit for this lol (although we were always in hysterics cos she used to slide up and down on the potty making a farty noise which may have inadvertantly speeded up the process) x

Thanks for all your tips. Adam is 2years and 2 months old, there is plenty of time yet i just wanted to get him used to it. Did you use a normal potty or one of the ones that actually look like a toilet? x x

We used a seat that sat in the toilet so she wouldn't fall down the toilet rather than a potty x

Weve got one of those but its the same problem as the potty, Adam will either scream or sit there holding everything in for about an hour then as soon as i put a nappy back on him he does it! Maybe hes just not ready yet, ill keep being persistant though x x

Hi
I dont know if its any help but my 2yr old refused to do anyting in his potty and always held it in and asked for his nappy back on. Mhy mum put one of his nappies in the bottom of the potty and he sat on it and had a wee straight away. He has been using the potty ever since with no fuss at all.

Thank you for all the help ladies. Since Sunday we seemed to have had a break through. I took adam out for his first proper outing yesterday in his underpants, we had a minor accident(bit i think that was my fault being to slow!) x x

My son hated the potty and would wee as soon as he got off! We went straight for the toilet after that and he was much happier - number 2's took a while to train though and he didn't do it on the loo til we took away his nappies at night, as he would wait till they were on then go! He was 18 months and dry in day and night within about two weeks. My daughter though took much longer and i put her back in nappies at 2 because she was having so many accidents and had speech problems too so decided it was easier to focus on one problem at a time - she i only just reliably dry at night and has just turned 8. My third trained herself at about 18 months! With boys though it might be an idea to get daddy to show him how to stand up and go - getting him a step so he can do it all by himself, my son always wanted to be alone and rightly so still does!
