So my 18 month old boy has recently started telling me quite clearly when he's about to do a poo ("uh oh, poo!") and also lets me know sometimes when he's wet by grabbing his nappy saying "blerrgh" ( his way of saying dirty, he also points to his dirty nappy and says it after I take it off every time)
To me this is a clear sign he might be ready to be potty trained but im worried if I start to early it will take longer as they say 18months is the very earliest so I would really like to hear your experiences..how it went and what age you started so I can get a clear picture of what im getting in to! Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanking you in advance!

There is no harm in giving it a go in your LO is showing signs. It's the same as anything, some kids pick it' up earlier and at different rates.

There's no harm in starting now and if he's not ready stopping and starting again later. At about 18 months my son started showing signs but I never acted on it cos he's wasn't long walking and I'd just found out I was pregnant again. We've purposely put it off until after baby as I knew itwas sall going to go to pot then anyway! He kind of stopped telling us for a while, and it's only really been again now in the last month (he's 26 months now) I'd say he's showing signs of being really ready.

My daughter does the same thing at mo and I am planning on starting potty training in the next 2 months. I was potty trained at 18 months and completely dry by 2 so I don't see why it can't be done :) x

Sounds like he could be ready to me! We're going to try with our son (17 months) in a couple of months time as summer is a good time to potty train - they can be outside and washed stuff dries quickly! - and there's no way I want to wait a whole year. Apparently I was clean (but not dry) from 13 months as I let mum know when I'd done a poo, so it's definitely possible at 18 months!

Wow, 13 months, that is impressive! x

Yes, except my own daughter has been a nightmare where pooing is concerned. She's dry during the day but will wait until her night time nappy goes on to do a poo. When I say wouldn't she rather do a poo in the toilet, she says no, she prefers the nappy! She's 3 now, so goodness knows when this will stop!!!

Ella I had a little girl that did exactly that when she was 3. I panicked, I flapped. Then she started preschool at 3 yrs 4 months and from the very first day used the loo all the time and never had an accident. I did a long paragraph on her info form about how she held poo all day. She just wanted to show me up :-)
