Think it has now died, its mouth is open wide and its gills have stopped moving. Thanks for all the advice, may come in handy if the other two start acting like it.

hi, we have 3 fish and one of them is upside down and floating round the top bit of the fish tank, its been like this for 2 days now, does anyone know whats wrong with it?

we thought that last night but its gills are still going and its eating food, and its using its fins every so often. It does swim up and down the tank but only upside down and sideways, never the normal way. it seems to have a bit of trouble sterring its fins as it keeps bumping into the other fish.

Think its to do with the swim bladder or something like that. Makes them all floaty poor fishy.

That happened to one of mine a few months back but is got worse and just sunk to the bottom of the tank. I euthanased (sp) it in the end :(

when my mums fish does that she runs water slowly on it then its fully back to life again its worked so many times and shes had the fish for 18 years now

sounds like dropsy or swim bladder hun.dont think theres much you can do it might right itself :?

I went to a fish specialist place, one of thier fish was floating at the top of the tank on its side and I noted there was a dead one in the tank, they assured me that it needed a good fart and would be fine. DS couldnt stop laughing at it then, other people there prob thought he was some sicko kid!! They said that alot of fish get mistaken for being dead/very ill when they just need to expel the gas....maybe the same for your fishy

Yep sounds like a swim bladder problem. Try frozen peas (seriously). Float a couple in the tank and replace them daily. Don't know how it works but it does.
