Josh has started teething, has a killer cold (his breathing is horrendous etc) and has horrendous nappy rash (but tbh its nearly cleared up!)) and it means every single night hes up between every hour to an hour and a half. Im not kidding you. We put him down and hell go to sleep but from 8 onwards its every hour and if we're lucky an hour and half.

Sometimes hell wake up at 2ish and then wont settle properly. Hes up every 15-20 minutes then for an hour. Im exhausted, phils exhausted and we just dont know what to do. Before we go to bed, we give him calpol, some sachets, tixylix and dentinox (believe me i hate giving him so much stuff...i hate it....but its the only thing that keeps him calm for that long).......

PLEASE HELP ME! even if its just the stories of how you survived or if you went through it!

oh dear.. didnt wanna read n run hun :hugs:

but have no advise x

Sorry no advice but didn't want to read and run either, hope he settles soon! Xx

sorry for the typos!!

been to the dr about his cold. He said if he cries in the night then leave him to it and that we have to stop him sleeping during the day. He obvs missed the point. Phil went to see if he could get sleeping pills or SOMEthing for his nights off as now none of us sleep any night. NO. Oh and the greatest piece of advice the unhelpfuk swine said - your parents...what d'ya epect.

Thanks girls!

Oh poor baby, no wonder he wont settle if he's teething with a cold and sore bum x

It does get better honey, is he in a cot? You could slightly raise the head end of the cot to help him breathe if he is full of a cold - it's awful when you have to lie flat on your back when your all stuffed up. You could just use some books under the legs to raise slightly. Have you tried those breathe easy plug in's, I think there are a few brands out there. Plug in before bed time, and a nice warm bath before bed - try and close the door to bathroom and let room fill with steam that could help. Grace used to get the sniffles when she was teething so it may be related to that. Sometimes calpol doesn't work with Grace, if she isn't settled after an hour I give her a dose of ibuprofen too. Not sure how old your LO is so I would check he can have this. Ibuprofen an hour after calpol usually does the trick. Does he have a temp?

For sore bums I used Metanium was recommended by hospital. Again this will probably be related to the bad teething. Metanium works really well, you don't need much and it works very quickly. Leave him with nappy off as much as you can and wash with cotton wool and water.

Teething has a lot to answer for, poor babbas go through so much. Does he have plenty of stuff to chew on?

It does get better eventually honey, Grace starting teething at like 8 weeks old and she had some periods where her teeth gave her so much grief. She is now 3 with a full set of teeth but we have now moved onto growing pains in her legs at night!

hey, we have the same stuff for nappy rash that you have laura and it seems to be working pretty well and is clearing itself up! He chews on everything anyway atm.... I will put his bed up tonight on a slight angle for sure! thanks so much....i just cant believe how much they have to suffer makes me so blinking sad! and now we are exhausted as we're up all the time. We just cant sleep now and i wanna cry im dreading phil leaving for a few hours later as all my confidence in looking after him is gone and i panic when i dont know how to help him and i could just cry all the time....

thanks so much xxx

Hey! As you know Drake was the same for 4 weeks, the only thing that kept me going was having a nap with him in the morning. Over the weekend he only woke twice in the night and managed to go without a feed, last night was 5 times but he was easier to settle afterwards..you know I'm thinking that maybe him having his feed was making him unsettled? I'm not sure but he's sleeping better without it! Does J have a dummy? Drake does and tends to wake up for it sometimes...I prop his dummy in his mouth with a bit of his blanket so it don't fall out when's going back to sleep. It really helps!

I know it's no consolation but keep at it, it WILL get better..it's the only thing that keeps me positive is knowing that he'll sleep better soon enough.

Ps..doctors don't half talk some shit I! So not only is he mocking you, he thinks that you going without sleep in the night will be better if he stays wake and is grumpy all day? They haven't got a frigging clue have they!

I hope so........... He has baby bronchitus (sic) so tht won't be helping x

If he has baby bronchitis I would personally not use a cough syrup unless it was an expectorant for babies, one to encourage coughing. Cough suppressants can make this worse, as they need a productive cough to get the mucus off their chest.

Did the doctor not give him any antibiotics?

I had a nightmare with my daughter when she was 2 years old, she developed pneumonia as the stupid doctors would not take her condition seriously. I took her back to the doctors 4 times, by the 4th she was rushed into A&E struggling for oxygen. They didn't believe it was on her chest, which was finally confirmed by x ray when she was hospitalised. They tried two lots of antibiotics but by that time it was too late and they were not strong enough to fight it. If they had just prescribed them in the first place she never would have been so poorly. Just kept getting fobbed off that she had a 'virus'.

I say if your not happy always get a second opinion, although that didn't help in my case! It took the 4th consultation with a 4th doctor. A mummy knows when something isn't right.

hope he gets well soon, i don't really have any advice apart from if your not happy with the response from the doctor make an appt with another one, trust your instincts every time.

sending hugs your way

thanks everyone......i dunno if im being paranoid but something doesnt feel right. i dunno what it is....i think its that everyone is telling me waking up 5-7 times a night isnt normal....something just doesnt feel clear cut! he's spent all today screaming his little head off - which he hasnt done since before we discovered the cows milk allergy. I refuse to put that down to teething.....iv never had another child or been around a small child that i can remember but i refuse to think its teething. maybe it is and i have a really sensitive child. But the fact he has bronchitis. Especially as we have a horrendous history of asthma. I was on 2 inhalers twice a day for 10 years, and my brother was rushed to hospital via 999 ambulance every month and ended up with a nebuliser. Im really worried. And dont get me wrong this cough etc isnt the first one he ha, something doesnt sit right no matter how trivial.. but then i dont know if im just being a parent and worried about everything!!! My HV is coming tomorrow as they have finally decided his sleeping patterns just arent normal. but im worried - its not tht i want him to go be of an illness that amoxicillin wont help but i just have oompa loompa vibes!!!!!!!!!!!! Ima serioulsy speak to my HV tomorrow!!¬!!! ill let you know how it goes girls! thanks for all your help!
