Pitching names to a reluctant OH

Me and my husband have been having a tough time agreeing on a boys name. He's completely stuck on two names we can't choose, Henry and William, and although Oliver was front runner for a while, neither of us wanted a name that was too common/popular.

He's shot down every name I've suggested. Sam, Gregory, Bo, Luke (I really loved this one), Matthew, Eric, Jonah, Alexander. Nope, nope, nope. :wall2:

I've been looking at names this morning and I quite like Flynn. I've said it out loud a few times and it feels good. We've agreed on a family name for a middle name so he'd be Flynn David S. Don't want to write my surname but it's two syllables.

Anyone had a resistant OH and have any hints and tips on how to pitch a new name? Suggest terrible ones first and then this will seem so much more reasonable? Lolol, I feel devious!

Suggestions for alternate names are welcome too.

I love Eric !! My hubby got to pik our sons name. I had to pick a girls name. Really hard agreeing lol good luck x

Eric was my maternal Grandad's name and I loved Erica and Eric but my husband won't even consider it. It's always been his go to made up silly name - for example, when his young cousins would visit when he was a teenager he'd tell them they couldn't go in his room because he kept a tiger called Eric in there (it worked). So annoying!

Lol I think its really cute an really boyish. My sons called Mikey. Not to every1s taste but a good strong boys name. Im not into all these new fashionable names lol xx

I wanted Emily for a girl but OH didn't like it. So I went on and on until he gave in :) I say if there's a name that you really like keep bugging him until he gives in.
If we have a boy his name will be Lewis James, we really liked Liam but his best mate named his son it so we had to change.

My OH is also bloody hard work when it comes to choosing names.. We still can't decide on a middle name for our LO..

I found the tactic that works the most is constant repetition.. On every list I suggested I included my fave name..
We even played dirty for a while & involved our 3yr old son.. Asking him which name he preferred.. Mine stuck :) hehe..

Flynn's lovely :) xxx

Well, as we lay in bed last night having a cuddle and talking about baby things I gave the name a go. Nope. :wall2: I can't remember exactly what he said but it was something like 'too American'.

I'm so frustrated! Told him that he's got to try and contribute one viable name and not joke ones all the flippin' time or we'll have to go back to my old suggestions (which he then made fun of because they were names of disciples - Matthew, Luke - I almost lost my temper saying that loads of English names came from the Bible and at least I was making suggestions beyond things I can see in the room!)

Going to leave it for a while, I'm sure a name will come to us. I just feel like it's so unfair for our possible future son that we've got this perfect name for our girl and not him.

It'll come in time sweet..

With my son, we agreed on a name almost straight away after finding out he was a boy baby.. This LO has been so much harder, but it just means we want to spend the time finding that perfect name.

My husband didn't really connect with this pregnancy as quickly as he did with the first (lots going on in home/work life) so he just wasn't as interested in deciding on a name as much as I was..

You still have plenty of time to spur him on & agree on a name. If there is a name you feel strongly about make it known to him that you seriously love this name & it should be given serious consideration - sometimes I gave OH too many choices to which it was easy for him to say no to.

Good luck x

I think that's part of the problem, I want us to agree but at the same time I've given the right to veto everything without really considering how I feel or giving it time, saying it out loud. Funnily enough though, he's mentioned Isaac a few times if we have a boy born on Christmas Day as it's Isaac Newton's birthday so maybe that could be a realistic contender? I quite like it.

If I ever come here one day and say we're naming him Grant after a Norwich City FC legend, consider me a broken woman!

Haha for our chosen boys name, he will be named after my OH favourite footballer that played for his club, I did agree but I changed the spelling . From Louis to Lewis. I hate the spelling Louis it looks like my middle name Louise.

I'm having a similar problem. My OH knew that if baby was a girl he was going to have very little say on the name as I've had it decided since I was about 10!
So now that we know baby is a boy its a nightmare, we just cannot agree. Partly because I don't like many boys names and partly because the few I do like he pulls a face at. Think our baby is going to remain nameless at least until he's born.
