good morning all

i have an appointment today with a heart consultant. not exactly sure what he's going to say or do to me though. i'm guessing he will ask me lots of questions and may want to run a few tests such as an ecg. anyway the last few days i have started to get pins and needles in my hands mainly my fingers and my toes. i wake in the night sometimes with it. normally if i keep my hands active they are ok but when i rest them they start feeling numb also using the computer mouse holding my hair dryer and holding a knife and fork seems to bring it on too. just wanted to check this is normal for pregnancy if its not i'm going to start getting scared :( should i mention it to the heart consultant or is it something to tell the midwife instead.

Sounds like carpal tunnel syndrome to me, but Im no expert so I would mention it to both MW and consultant today.

I get it really bad and is usually quite normal during pregnancy.

thankyou i'll mention it today then. just dried my hair with the hairdryer and couldn't feel my hand after it

Pins and needles are common in pregnancy. I used to get them badly in second tri and early third tri. And never in the arm I was lying on. O no, I'd be in bed and would wake and have bad pins and needles in the arm resting on top :wall:

Used to happen anytime really.

I've had numerous heart tests during pregnancy, most are striaghtforward :) I've never thought that my pins and needles were related to that though, as I've read and been told pins and needles are normal in pregnancy.

Also as has been said, some of it could be carpal tunnel which again does happen in pregnancy.

thankyou sherlock. i was getting a little worried that it could be a circulation problem or something due to my heart so its good to hear that its normal for pregnancy :D i'll mention it today anyway and to my midwife when i see her again in 2 weeks.

I get it a lot and just take it as a natural variable of pregnancy. It would not hurt to mention it....If only for reassurance x
