I'm hoping it's okay for me to write this post about current UK immigration laws, which came into force in 2012. Because I am British, and my female partner is American, she cannot come to move to the UK unless I earn £18,600 per annum. This is impossible being a single mother on a part time wage. I am in the process of contacting my local MP, and raising awareness on the issue to have these laws changed in time for the UK election in May. Please take a read of this and take a moment of your time to sign this petition. ( ADMIN I HOPE THIS IS OKAY, IF NOT, I WILL DELETE).

Thank you in advance.

You won't get any laws changed by May, it takes years to change laws I'm afraid. I'm assuming the salary limit is to ensure you can support her and she won't qualify for claiming benefits? Sorry I don't know much about this legislation x

I believe the wheels are already starting to turn and an mp has already kicked up a fuss and processed an Early Day Motion for the rules to be reviewed.

Thanks

Its to ensure she can support herself, yes, and to jot claim benefits. Its not like international spouses can get them anyway, so I dont see the point in this mess. Its just keeping families apart.

Interesting I never realised policy reviews can be conducted for areas that can't be justified as being emergency legislation. It dops sound odd as you say they can't claim benefits anyway but I guess there will be reasoning behind it. Does it apply to spouses too? I always thought if you were married they had.to.let them in?

I think you will only have 4 weeks due to purdah and parliament being disbanded shortly :( have you tried to get the media involved? That's always a good way to generate interest.

2 months - 30 March,still wouldn't imagine that'll be.anywhere near enough time hun

Yes, I have an article being published in March, and a Green Party associate interviewing on the 27th.

If she's your spouse I don't understand why she's not automatically allowed in? X

You've just appeared in my Facebook news feed! The Nottingham post have done an article right?

I signed for you :)

Ive seen on like.. The TV UK airport and stuff that if your married, spouses automatically come in? How comes she isnt able to?

Goodluck with it all and wishing you the best :) xx

She isn't able to because she is America and I don't earn £18,600 per annum. If she was Polish, or Spanish, then she would.
