I have 2 very affectionate cats aged 8 and 10.

I am quite worried they are going to get funny after the baby is born, ie. jealous.

I just wondered what experiences others have had with pets adjusting to new arrivals?

My dog was a little bit funny for a few days. He'd never seen a baby before. He used to just walk away everytime Aaron was in the room. Now he's fine, if Aaron hurts himself he runs over and nuzzles him to make sure he's ok. He has times where he doesn't want to know and will just walk off but animals adjust quite well :)

my cat doesn't really pay any attention to her. She runs from the room if alice starts screaming though :) But then she is scared of my hamster! :rotfl:

I still don't allow them in the same room together on their own though.

My dog fell in love as soon as we bought Leorah home! Any little sound from her moses basket she would run over to me as if to say hurry up and do something! Throughout the nighttime feeds she would wake up and rest her head on my feet and give the occassional encouraging lick! It has really bought out the maternal side in her and she's grown up so much! She is really patient and even though I said I'd treat her the same when Leorah was born of course most of my time goes to Leorah. When I give the baby to DH or someone my dog will come running over as if to say my turn now!

The only problem we had was that Princess (the dog!) started to disobey me a bit, she would sit on the settee (she's never been allowed on there!) and things like that, just like a jealous toddler but never on Leorah. We made sure she has been around children and babies before Leorah was born which may of helped. I guess cats are different altogether though but most people don't have any problems with their cats and babies.

I've got 2 cats and they were fine from the 1st day we brought Oliver home. Just make sure you still give them attention when you can and I'm sure they'll be fine. One of my cats Spike comes and sits on my lap once we've put Oliver to bed - it's very sweet, as if to say you're my mummy again now! I was worried as they were used to having all our attention but they have been fantastic.

Good Luck

i have a dog that is 8. she knew something was there but never had any trouble. the only thing that i would say was when they are up and walking, they do chase them!

My cat elvis and dog Diva coped really well, elvis was a feral kitten but has become friendly as hes got older, Diva never leaves Kaidens side, and Elvis was a bit curious, my OH took my sons baby grow home the 1st day he was born and stuck it on a doll so they could take a good sniff. Try not to get too uptight when they first meet the baby. I also found with Elvis that when he got too close to my son, i used to walk over pick him up give him a quick fuss and then sit him away from him, coz if you dive towards the cats they can get a fright and scratch the baby as the try to move away. I dont allow the animals into his room though, but im sure theyl get along fine XkelX

Thats doesn't sound too bad then.

Thanks for the advice everyone! :D
