well i just got my insurance renewal through the post and was like       they've put it up from 16 to 20 and up'd the vets excess to 80 from 60  they have increased some of the benefits like hol cancelation etc but 80 excess !

so im thinking is it worth it ? i mean i could put the 20 away a month instead? only thing i was worried about is that it does cover me 3rd party ?

what do u all do? and who are you with ? im with direct line at mo

I would have a look around, I have insurance for my two cats which was with Direct Line, I switched to More Than and got more cover, cheaper!

Yes thank god weve got it. our vets bill for our greyhound since we got her in dec is £350  thats without the £250 op for the snip that the shelter paid for.

I am with PDSA since M&S who I was with for first two years got really expensive and brought in this stupid vet nurse call line that you have to ring if you think you need to see an emergency vet before you take the dog to vets so they can decide if its necessary if you go without calling them and them saying its necessary they wont pay claim but they do admit it could take 10-15 minutes to answer your call maybe more theres no way I'm sitting on hold for 10-15 minutes if I think my dog needs an emergency vet that could be the difference between life or death!

I couldn't find the money if my dog was to need thousands of pounds worth of treatment so for me the insurance is worth the piece of mind it would break my heart if he was really ill and something could be done to save him but I couldn't aford it, my MIL however could find the money if it really came to it and has two dogs so finds it beter to save the money she would pay for both their premiums every month.

I don't want to sound really irresponsible but I don't buy pet insurance and I love my dog to bits. I hate having to pay insurance at the best of times, just paying for something that might happen and meanwhile I'm lining the insurance companys pockets annoys me lol

So anyway, I would rather pay the money when the time comes than pay insurance with terms and conditions. As you say, its better being put into a high interest savings account.

I'm with More Than & I've claimed loads including a hip replacement for my Lab when she was 3 (which ran into thousands). I think I am about £10ish a month & my excess is £75.

I'd keep it just incase.

We're with Petplan and it is really expensive.

We got it in the first place purely for 3rd party.....as "oor Mack" is a bit of a mentalist and we were convinced that if he escaped he'd cause a 14 car pile up, end up uninjured, but we'd have umpteen angry motorists after us!

I've also in the past had an uninsured dog who became diabetic. In the first 6 months of his illness we must have spent almost 4000 pounds!

So the cover we have is the one that will carry on paying for illness even after the first year!

I have thought of putting the money into an account, but never got round to it. I've also claimed on it for a dog pshycologist coz our Molly was a bit of a violent hound when we first got her (and I still have the scars to prove it!)

xxx

y last doggy was also diabetic and yes , doesnt that cost a bomb ! illt ry and look for cover else where i think , to putit up that much when ive not claimed in 3 years seems horrid of them ! i might go with tesco , least id get clubcard points :rotfl:

yes wouldnt be without our insurance now!

Just check the policy as well as alot of them will only cover illnesses for a year, our dog is only 3 and has arthritus and could cost a lot of money if her condition deteriorates over the years, so ours are all on life plan policies i pay £50 a month for our 2 dogs! but then Asha had to have a throat op at 13 months old at cambridge hospital which was £1500

shop around and call them up saying you have got cheaper quotes. 9 times out of 10 the advisers have a percentage they can reduce the premiums, or they can price match.

Also, with tescos you can pay with your clubcard vouchers.

I got my dog insurance of a site called healthy pets.
www.healthy-pets.co.uk/
I pay £3.81 a month for silver insurance. Bronze was £2.20 a month and Gold £4.90 or something a month. They are a site supported by AXA only a lot cheaper. Couldn't believe the price when I seen it!! :D

I'm with E&L and its £9.00 a month for silver insurance

I've used them a few times but have never had to claim so dont know how they are in that respect

I went on money super market last week to get my mums choc lab some insurance and Argos pet insurance was by far the cheapest and it covers everything in there aswell.
