Periods on Mirena

Hi everyone.

I've had the Mirena IUD since Vi was a few months old and I have been seeing how long my cycles are for the last few months. I don't bleed heavily but Af has been coming every 25 days. This month it's day 29 and still nothing. Now I know periods can stop on the Mirena but assumed that they'd tail of over a few months not all of a sudden. I'm sure it will turn up but just seems a bit odd. xxx

Its very possible your lining is just so thinned down that you'll get little if any bleeding now til the mirena is 4or5 yrs old. It's worth doing a pregnancy test and or getting a nurse or gp to check its all still in place ok but it moving or coming out at this stage is rare. If it's in then contraception cover is amazing 1:3000 failure rate.

I rarely bled when I had the mirena.

When I did it was so light, I only really needed a panty liner.

Thanks for commenting Fliss. How long have you got to go now? I'm so jealous! I can't remember when my periods stopped on my last Mirena and think that I didn't have any at all hardly. Because I seem to have had a regular period albeit a light one using it this time, I'm just a bit more cautious that it's suddenly late. As you say, it's very unlikely that I am pregnant but probably a good idea to test. xxx

Just done a FRER and it was negative. Not sure if I'm sad or happy. x

Sorry Dotty. I don't think bfn is ever nice but a pregnancy with a coil in place is complicated and has high chance of ectopic.
I'd still see if you can get a quick coil check but hopefully you'll get a few years of blissful period free time with your mirena.

I'm 37 weeks now but booked for induction next week due to large baby. Can't wait now!

Thanks Fliss. I think it was wishful POAS. Failure of my IUD would be the only way of me having another baby as OH doesn't want any more. Wish I could say the same. Good luck and hope it goes as quickly as possible. I look forward to seeing you new little bundle. xxx
