Hi Ladies,

I wonder if anyone can help me, I'm really struggling to work out what's going on or find the right information on he internet.

I had my copper IUD removed on the 1st of May. Afterwards the gynae did an ultrasound scan and told me I had polycystic ovaries. She told me not to worry though, because I don't display any of the other signs of the syndrome (ie acne, overweight, excess hair, irregular periods). So I was under the impression that even though my cycle is long (33 days normally), it's regular so I don't actually have PCO Syndrome, just polycystic ovaries. She said this would not affect my fertility.

My last period however was on the 11th April. That now makes me on cd 39 and I've done (many) hpts and know I'm not pregnant. What worries me now is that because my cycle length is longer, I now fall into the 'syndrome' category and that my fertility may be affected.

Has anyone had similar experiences of delayed periods after copper IUD removal? Or know if PCO/S is affected at all by the IUD? Any help would be sooo appreciated! I couldn't get another appt with the gynae until July and I don't want to go nuts thinking about it til then!!

Thanks in advance!

First of all don't go nuts! The stress of worrying about all these things can be more of an issue than the issue itself. PCO is a funny thing and I think the truth is it can affect people differently. I'm not a big believer in "you have to have the syndrome to mean you might have issues" because I think it seems to vary.

I think a big thing is PCo in larger ladies because the higher BMI can be a problem. pCO is also closely related to insulin issues and how our body produces insulin in response to what we eat. If you have this issue then the knock on is an affect on the hormones. Google PCOS and insulin resistance. You will see how you can really help your own fertility by trying to eat low GI.

Don't panic though look at victoria beckham, she had four babies and had symptoms with pco. I had a number of miscarriages despite not having the syndrome but now I have a baby boy and fell pregnant right away after the copper IUD was removed. X
