Hi there, I'm confused about paracetamol. I have been told my NHS Direct, Boots Chemist and the Midwife that I can take paracetamol for pain relief but the book the midwife gave me says you shouldn't take it in your first trimester. I went to the docs this morning and he said I could take it but when I have checked on the internet there are loads of sites saying again that you shouldn't take in your 1st tri.

My mum also went to her doc today and he told her that it shouldn't be taken in the 1st tri - i'm getting conflicting information from all angles now.

What you you guys think?

I've got a viral infection and my throat is raging sore but I don't want to do any harm to bubba....??

From what I have been told its perfectly safe to take, I would follow MW advise rather than anyone elses though :D

my MW and all docs I have spoken to have said that paracetomol is fine. I have taken it throughout my pregnancy and our LO has been perfectly healthy at scans...

i agree, mw told me it was fine and i've taken it plenty in first tri, second and thid, baby is perfectly healthy, don't worry about it and pop a couple!

TBH paracetamol isn't going to help a sore throat. I'd have tea with lemon and honey in or something. And eat a bit of ice cream

too much can cause problems with the babys kidneys, so if there is an alternative i would go with that.
I'm sure its safe once in a while, just not taking loads or more than you should.

Thanks everyone. I was going to take soluble paracetamol and gargle with it for my sore throat but decided against it in the end. I just gargled with the old tried and trusted salt water and it has eased it a little so thanks are a little better today.

I's just so blumming confusing though, you would think that all in the medical profession are of the same opinion but it seems like they are divided, how the hell are we supposed to know what to do if they give us different answers each time.

Oh well, if in doubt don't take it I suppose.....

Cheers all.
xx
