Ouch.....!!

So I am nearly 6 weeks in with ebf and after having the painfully sore nipples at the beginning, that seemed to die off by about 2 weeks in. Since yesterday though my left nipple is sooooo painful I feel like I'm going backwards! What's even worse is that it hurts lots at the beginning of every feed like it did before, but now it's not getting better as the feed goes on, it gets worse! It seems to hurt most at the bottom of the nipple and just underneath it. Any advice please?? Xxxxx

Hi Claire, is it just hurting or is it sore and cracked? Make sure baby has a full mouthful and not just your nipple xx

Hiya, it's just really sore, the whole nipple area just really sore. Been using the lanolin gel but not every time admittedly.. But it kind of feels more internal if that makes sense? I've just tried expressing instead and that hurt too ;-( just going to have to keep feeding from the other one today as I don't think I can take it! ;-(

Sometimes i feel like its an internal pain too. i only had sore nipples first few days, then the HV showed me a different feeding position and it healed literally within a day. Maybe try changing your feeding position. But as for the internal feeling, i get that every now and then, but it passes. Maybe if yours continues, have a check with your GP, as you dont want it developing into infection xx

It can be beggining of a thrush, does it look whitish at all(the nipple i mean?

That sounds like thrush. Tbh. Def get checked out. And get LO checked. If it is, you will BOTH need treated, even if no symptoms. (Some health care professionals are blissfully unaware of that fact - I had to fight one of our mw's to get us both done)
