Hello

Can someone tell ,me when you are using OPKs how long does the LH surge last for? I am thinking about starting to use these and was just wondering if you just use them once daily is it likely to pick up the surge?!

i used to use them once a day mid afternoon from about day 9 of my cycle until a few days after picking up the surge. have a look on ebay, you can pick them up cheaply.

I was quite new to OPK's so I used one in the morning of day 9 and one in the evening. And carried on until I detected a surge.

As my cycles are between 28-33 days I detected 1 surge around Day 16 one month and around day 14 he next.

I got mine from Ebay too, really cheap.

but does the surge only last say a couple of hours so it is easy to miss it with the OPKs ??sorry if i am being dumb just dont know!!

From what I understand the surge can vary in length, it could rise and rise over 2 days, then you ov after that. It could happen overnight and you don't see it happen, but you'd still ov after it. I think that's why docs don't always recommend opks. Also, it's why so many people here do charting too, the 2 things together may be more accurate.

I don't actually chart yet and I only did opks for one cycle last month, I didn't this month cos the whole idea stressed me out a bit too much - my af was late and I'm sure that's why!!

The surge varies with each person.

For example one morning I got a dark line, not as dark as the control line but almost which was the biginning of my surge.
I tested again in the evening and the line was as dark as the control line.
Next morning it was the same as the control line
That evening it was almost as dark so had obviously started to fade.

So basically I had a 2 day surge.

Some people may surge overnight and never get a line as dark as the control line.

I recommend you read Sams Peeonastick sticky at the top of TTC it really helps explain OPKs.
