One tube removed - IVF still our only chance?

Hello! I'm new to this forum but not to the TTC process.

I just had a laparoscopy in which they were originally going to take both tubes due to a hydrosalpinx so that when we do IVF next August we will have the best chance.

However during the procedure they discovered that my right tube is actually clear!?!?

I left the hospital with very poor aftercare and advice and am now at a loose end. Anyone else been through this? Is there a chance of natural conception after this result since apparently one tube is patent?

I'm feeling very lost at the moment ,even a chat would be lovey xxxx

I'm having surgery to remove my left tube as it is scarred and have a hydro. Maybe the right one if that has hydro.
With one tube you can still get preg naturally! Defo. They said to me higher chances as the one tubr can catch both sides and also hydros can cause implantation failure and mc. So i think you should have a good chance naturally now. When is your next consultation xxx

Umm we don't actually have one scheduled, it's all very confusing we were pretty much sent away from hospital without any advice or anything. I think the results from the lap will go back to the clinic and they might contact us?

Are you in a similar situation with regards to IVF? How long have you been TTC?

Yeah I think the results should go back and then you'll get sent a follow up chase them up if you don't hear soon!i would

I've been ttc 2 years with several losses. The ivf will just be if both my tubes are affected by the hydro. Or if they think its better as I have high NK cells and have had quite a few chemicals. Will find out after my op .

Do you ovulate fine ? Xxx

Yeah I definitely will, I hate being left in the dark about things so important!

Yup everything else 'seems' to be in working order, OH and I are only 25 so are hoping we have good chances of IVF working. My tubes were damaged due to previous surgery so I hope there's nothing else sinister going on. It's been nearly 4 years on and off now though do you think the hydro could have killed off all the potential eggs from implanting?

I really hope one of you tubes is clear too! Are you on IVF waiting list? Its a scary thought having to consider it as an option

Haha that's so weird I'm 22 and OH is 25 and my scarring was from a previous op too!! Mine was from ovarian cyst surgery. I have pcos too and was having very short 2 weekly cycles but they seem to be okay now touchwood!

Nope not on the waiting list, think I will only be put on after the appt thats after my op and when applied for the funding etc. I also have a low antral follicle count, think its cause I only have a bit of the left ovary remaining. Right seems okay though

Hi Yellowbird, as millie says you can certainly have success with one tube. There was a lady on here who had her baby just last week, she only has one tube and she knows she ovulated from the side she didn't have a tube that cycle too.

Tubes seem to be the only bit of me that is working right! Suppose I have to have something in my favour.

Hi Yellowbird, I had 1 of my fallopian tubes removed in July and I am now pregnant, so definitely possible Your 1 remaining fallopian tube can pick up an egg ovulated from either ovary but I found that I ovulated from the ovary on the same side as my remaining tube each month after the lap because your fallopian tube has finger type things and releases hormones to encourage the ovary on that side to ovulate. So really, nothing to worry about at all xx

Thanks girls you've definitely given me some hope! We were told that pretty much our only option was to do IVF. We arent getting taken until Sept next year though so Atleast we well get a fair try at natural conception.

Millie that is so strange that we are similar ages and situations. Are any of your friends at the TTC stage ? I find it difficult to talk to my friends about procedures and stuff cause they don't really know we're TTC.

No, of course Yellowbird, ask away! During the ttc process we found out that I only have half a uterus! So they removed the fallopian tube that didn't connect to anything to prevent an ectopic pregnancy. So, we're certainly not out of the woods yet but natural conception is definitely possible with one tube xx

Oh, sorry, the main thing I think we did differently was relax! I know how annoying it is when people say that but honestly we had completely given up on the hope of conceiving naturally, we were at a prviate fertility clinic discussing IVF options (hubby has a chromosome abnormality - we're always one for a challenge!) on the Thursday before we got out BFP on the Saturday!
Miracles do happen and I'm sure yours is just around the corner xx

Your tube isn't fixed so it can actually move over to the other ovary and pick up the egg from there. Clever isn't it!

We are ttc our first, over three years now. I have pcos, a slight heart shaped uterus and I've just found out as part of our recurrent mc testing that I have thyroid antibodies too. Great! I have managed to get pregnant twice but my mc rate is really really high with all those things combined. I'm currently waiting for a new cycle to start so we can try clomid, fingers crossed it works and that it stays put this time!

September will come around before you know it, besides you hopefully won't need to wait that long and will get your natural bfp, good luck

Oh my goodness! That's definitely something I've never heard much about. I don't want to sound ignorant but I have no idea how that works (but would like to) haha.

The thing that is throwing me is that we have been TTC for over 3 years and I can't understand how my hydrosalpinx could have stopped it all this time. But I guess it did?!

So exciting though! Are you excited or over v thinking everything like I feel I will do when I get pregnant :,) xx

Snowbee! Gosh you certainly don't have it particularly easy! sorry to hear about your mcs you must be incredibly strong! Good luck with clomid it may be just what you need!

I'm not sure if the tube moving trick will work for me add I didn't actually have my left one removed it's just clipped shut! But hopefully my right one will just demand eggs haha!

I don't think it's something anyone has heard much about, it's as rare as about 100,000 to 1 apparently, and most of the medical professionals we have seen, including the sonogropher at the EPU know nothing about it, which is not in the slightest bit reassurring!
Hopefully it will be ok, your uterus is very stretchy and we will have a close eye kept on us all the way through. Probably won't get to term or be able to deliver naturally but we are just so pleased to have even got this far!
I was worried initially about an ectopic pregnancy, with only having the one tube, but now it has been confimred that baby is in the right place I am just competely excited and overjoyed! We've got to embrace these magical moments xx
