basically i found out 2 weeks ago today that i was pregnant and told the doctor one week ago today that i wanted to keep it (this was unplanned and completely unexpected as i was on the pill and hadnt missed one) anyway, the doc gave me a bounty pack and sent me on my way saying wait for the midwife to call to arrange everything else. i made sure my phone number was correct on the system etc and have been waiting for a phone call for a week. OH is getting concerned that they havent rung yet because we dont know how far i am or anything. i dont know when they will call i assume at around 10 weeks (which is at our estimate of me being 7 weeks now 3 weeks away) he wants to come to every appt. and def wants to meet the midwife at the first appt.

so after all that rambling, at around what date will the following things happen:

first meet the midwife
blood tests etc (and what is the blood tested for)
first scan
second scan
antenatal classes start

i dont know if this is in the right section (or if it should be in "ask a mum" but assumed people here would know too) blame the OH for all these questions but i would like to know too :D this is the first pregnancy ive had and being only 19 im very nervous and dont like not knowing stuff

ETA what else will be done throughout this what other tests etc and when do they happen  always have to find something to ask at the last minute dont they

first meet the midwife about 8/10 weeks
blood tests etc (and what is the blood tested for) 15/16 weeks for downs and spina bifida
first scan 12 weeks
second scan 20 weeks
antenatal classes start not sure

thanks

he added another question

so i should expect a call within the next 10 days or so from the midwife? and then about 2 weeks later a first scan, even though i may not be 7 weeks now (i cant remember my last period which is ever so useful lol)

Firstly - congratulations. You sound like you have a very supportive OH so that's excellent.

When you get your MW appts and scans etc will really depend on your local area. However, I think it's quite normal to meet your MW quite soon after you have seen your doctor or at least to have a telephone call from her. I would wait about a week and then call up your docs and ask when to expect to hear from the MW. Mine called me three days after my booking appointment at the docs and I saw her the following week, she did my blood test then.

I think the first blood test that the MW does covers a lot of things, Hep, HIV etc. Others on the board can probably be more specific.

In most areas the first scan happens at about 12 weeks. And then you get another one around 20 weeks.

Antenatal classes differ a lot depending on the area you live. When I was preg with my DD I had mine at 35weeks which I thought was quite late.

Hope some of that helps

he is supportive but i dont think its hit him properly yet, cause of no appts etc. all hes had to put up with is "ergh i feel sick and tired" from me and me obviously telling him.

so leave it another week then call the doc? its been a week since he said she would call.

we have got to tell his parents yet (oh the joy) they are going to be so unsupportive and spiteful and say i got pregnant to not get a job and to trap him. but thats a whole other post that im about to post in another section on the best way to tell them.

If there is a query over your dates you may be booked in for a dating scan to be sure how far on you are.

Everything as Mary70 says so wont repeat that except you will probably have bloods taken at booking in appointment at first midwife these will be blood count, blood type, your immunity to measles and rubella, test for hepititis (sp) and HIV - might have missed something out but midwife will explain what they are actually testing for when they take the bloods.

I highly recommend getting what to expect when your expecting it talks you through what to expect every week what will happen at each appointment (baring in mind different areas do things slightly differently but will give you pretty good idea) everything to expect, would be good for you and OH to answer all your questions as im sure you will have new ones all the time!

it does depend on your area but what everyone else has said is correct, sometimes now they try to only give one scan at 20 weeks but as you fell pregnant on the pill they will want to do a dating scan at about 12 weeks. i never had 1 midwife..i saw a few different ones but i went for my booking in and taking bloods at about 10 weeks..so you should get a call or letter through with your appt for that soon. then they will give you your pregnancy notes which has a list of when you will have all your midwfe appointments etc..
i had like a big antenatal day instead of a few classes because they squeezed it all into one day- i was 37 weeks..but i was the furthest along out of everyone else they were all between 28-34 weeks..

congrats on the pregnancy..i was the same as you (fell on the pill)
it was a bit of a shock but its the best thing thats happened to me :D

thanks everyone.

i assume the "what to expect when expecting" is a book? i will have a look on amazon now :)

i think the initial shock has gone for me because ive been the one feeling sick etc. im glad he has questions and stuff though, because before he was so nervous and worried but he said yesterday he isnt so much anymore (his sister knows about the whole thing so hes had someone to talk to other than me :) )

I was only 19 when i first found out about my pregnancy, and she wasnt at all planned either, but unlike you i didnt have a supportive OH, i can only fill you in on what happens where i live, it may be differnt in other places.

I saw the doctor after finding out i was pregnant and they told me to fill in a form for the midwife and hand it back (included previous prengancies, the fathers detials, my last period if i knew it, and how long my cycle was, oh and what protection i was using when i fell pregnant)

I got letters for my scan through quite quickly and had an early pregnancy class at 9 weeks.

My dating scan was at 10+5, i know some places dont offer them to everyone but its usual here for everyone to have one.

At 12 weeks i met my midwife, had bloods taken and a booking in appointment.

15 weeks they took more bloods for downs screening and the midwife used the dopler to find LO's heartbeat

20+3 i had my anomoly scan, they check everybit of LO but she wouldnt play ball and open her legs

24 weeks midwife
28 weeks (bloods taken again) midwife
29 weeks feeding baby class (on breastfeeding)
31 weeks (doctor not midwife)
33 weeks antenatel class on labour
34 weeks midwife, and antenatal class on your new born
36 weeks midwife
38 weeks midwife
40 weeks midwife

This is the care we get, but is based on a pregnancy with no complications at all. The what to expect when your expecting book is meant to be very good and if you dont really know much about pregnancy it'll really help you.

Not sure if i read your post wrong but did your Dr say he'd refer you to the midwife? if so you may wanna try ringing up to push it cos in my experience Dr can be pretty crap at remembering things like that
