Nucal Test

hi just wondering what the nucual test is ive had my 12 week scan and pretty much like the rest of you it short and sweet with grumps as the sonographer happy with the pics can any one fill me in

Hiya the Nucal Fold test is where they do a scan that looks closely at the thickness of the gap at the back of the baby's neck basically if its very thick there is a stronger chance of Downs Syndrom the scan can only give an 88% assesment but you can then have the triple test which is a blood test and if that shows you to be in the high risk area then they will suggest the amino or cvs tests.

Generally these tests are only recommended to older mums-to-be as the older you are the higher the risk.

I'm 39 and got my results letter through this morning.

before the scan my risk was 1:141
after the scan risk has lowered to 1:785

Which I'm very happy with they generally say high risk is less than 1:300

ive been offered the blood test which is on the 28 feb its such a worry

It is but you don't have to have any of the tests if you don't want to don't be bullied into it.
