Hi ladies,

This is well in advance but I have no plans to return to my job when my maternity leave ends in March. When/how do I tell them? And if they invite me to KIT days what do I say?

I hated my job and only stayed in it long enough to get maternity pay -that I'll have to pay back but will accrue holiday too.

Thanks xx

If you get SMP only you don't have to pay it back?

I would check your contract for your notice period. That is the amount of notice you'll have to give whilst on ML.

You are not obligated to do any KIT days, if they ask you to attend any then politely refuse (no childcare is a very valid reason!)

I would just give a months notice before you're due to return, like you would normally if you were to quit. I don't really think they can ask you to come into work when you're on mat leave?

usually its 8 weeks notice- thats what it says on my maternity contract. 8 weeks notice to return to work or leave work.

you dont pay any maternity pay back

It's whatever your own notice period is. I had three months at one place! A lot of places are only 4 weeks or a month.

You don't pay smp back but they can require the return of additional company specific maternity pay (my sister had crazy good mat pay - it might have even been 100% salary for 6 months - I think she had to return to work for 12 months or pay the extra back. )

I've got some company maternity pay on top of SMP which I'll have to pay back but I have kept money aside for this.

Thanks ladies :) xx
