Hi Michelle,

I was given this last year as I wasn't having periods, the idea for me taking it was so I would have a 'bleed'. They call it this because it's not your period, it's the tablet creating a 'bleed'.

Can I ask why you were given these tablets? Was it just because you were due af when oh was home? I assume you did a pg test before you took the tablets? The 'bleed' you experienced after you finished taking the tablets is perfectly normal
& is meant to happen.

I don't know about u but I had horrible side affects with these? I had really bad sweats in the night (I had to dry myself with a towel...sorry tmi), I had bad dreams & woke up jumping out of bed turning the light on thinking someone was in the room.

Not sure if I've answered your question but hope I've helped?

I took Norethisterone for a month in June last year to get me through my wedding as I had a non hormonal coil which caused very heavy bleeding and terrible cramps. When I stopped taking it I bled sooooo heavily with huge clots (ugh - sorry tmi) that I thought I had had an unknown pregnancy and was having a mc. It was so heavy it caused my coil to dislodge and start coming out so I had to have it removed that day :-( it really was unpleasant. Not sure that my experience helps you but thought I would share it - I think it is quite common to have a heavy period after taking it. Xxx

I had norethisterone a few weeks ago and bled 3 days after I finished taking them but since then have had a two week break and am now bleeding again so cant really help you answer xxx

thanks for the reply guys i was prescribed it because i was due my period 2 days before i flew out to seem him hes been away for 4 months and isnt due home till april this year xxx

im just unsure if im having my normal monthy period or if this is bleeding from stopping taking the medication (tmi)

im not due on for another 2 weeks xxx

It will be the bleed from stopping taking the tablets, it won't be your actual period.

Thanks so does this mean I could still be pregnant ??

Sorry for all the questions I'm just so confused the doctor really didnt explain anything xxx

Although it is a bleed rather than your actual period I believe it is still lining of womb so I don't think you would be pregnant but I have no idea so happy to be corrected. Have you tried ringing gp surgery?

You should not take Norethisterone while pregnant.

It might not stop pregnancy happening, but when you stop taking it then you will get a period that will very likely flush out any embryo...

Sorry, but this should have been explained to you :eh:

No you won't be pregnant I'm afraid, which is why I wondered if you'd done a test before taking it. What Louiseb said is correct it would flush anything out.

Tell me to mind my own business but have you seen anyone about ttc? It just seems a very long time & would think a fertility specialist might be able to help. Sorry to hear about your mc x

Thanks guys I kind of come round to the idea it was a mistake taking it it wasnt fully explained to me even though the doctor was aware of my situation xxx we have both been tested and there is nothing medically wrong with me or my OH and because I have a child to a previous relationship and have had the mc the hospital refuse to help us unless we pay xxx

Can't believe gp didn't fully explain it especially if you've never taken it before, not good.

Well that's good news regarding health been fine for you & oh, do you chart your temps or use opk's to check wen your ovulating? X

Yeah we have been doing all of that for years guess we just have to be paitent and keep trying :( xxx

Well I really hope you get a bfp soon xx

That must be awful for you & really hard to ttc.
