Nipple is pierced - Can I breastfeed?

Hi,

When I was 16 I got my nipple pierced never really considering the affect it may have when I got pregnant, I guess not many would at that age. Does anyone know if I will be able to breastfeed (I am 5 weeks) or whether it is a strict no no?! Would I have to take the piercing out now or just remove it nearer to when I have the baby?! Sorry this is my first and I haven't got a clue!

yes you can, i had both mine pierced before gtting pregnant the first time, they got quite sore during preg so i removed them but they didnt make a difference to bf. since i took them out theyre mostly healed but milk comes out the old holes lol. you dont have to remove them at all, possibly just take out when u wanna feed if you want to keep the piercings afterwards but beware to keep the bars and holes sterile as possible if you do that. failing that just keep them in til you come across a reason to remove them. i might try to put mine back in when ive finished bf, will se how i feel

Sorry to butt in however, did you take your piercings out cos? I've always taken mine out and basically shoved them back in lol xx
