Wasn't sure where to post this but hoping those of you ladies who have breastfeeding experience might have some advice re: nipple cream. I'd like to breastfeed if possible and want to be as prepared as I can be for it, so have bought some nipple shields and nipple cream to get me started.

My question relates to Lansinoh - it's so expensive compared to some of the cheaper creams you can get in boots / superdrug / supermarkets, etc. Is it really worth the extra expense? I've bought one tube (think it cost £8) but also got a superdrug one that I think was £1/2 but would really like to know in advance if I'm better off spending more and getting the best?

I know it's not megabucks in the grand scheme of things but as with lots of baby related stuff I'm trying to save money wherever possible!

Thanks for your help xx

Yes it is worth it, it's amazing and the only thing that helped me and got me through the first few weeks. I tried a diff one and it was no where near as effective. xx

It is amazing stuff! I bought boots own brand which was useless. Normally with the own brand stuff you have to wipe if off before feeding and when your on a cluster feed its no help at all! Lansinoh is totally natural so you don't have to wipe it off!

In the long run, it will be cheaper! You can get the midwife to get you a prescription for it and use your maternity exemption certificate to get it for free!

From memory the superdrug stuff is just moisturiser. Lansinoh is well worth the money!

Agree with others, avoid own brands and just stick with Lansinoh. It's amazing for cracked nipples, nothing else compares imo.

It's worth it's weight in gold in my opinion!

Look out for deals in baby events and stock up, Ive bought it for £6 in Tesco before.

Yep, Lansinoh is great stuff. You can get it on subscribe and save on Amazon, which brings the cost down, and its delivered to your door at regular intervals! :)

I only use lansinoh, I had my baby six weeks ago and haven't even used the tube. In the first two weeks I put it on after every feed. I can't even tell you when I last used it. you can get little sachet from midwives to. X

I breastfed for a year and trust me the Lansinoh was absolutely amazing - I still have just under half a tube left as well! I used it for every single feed in the first 3 months of feeding because I was quite sore and you can use it before feeds to protect without it affecting the baby - do it!! xx

Everything else is just false economy. Def go for the Lansinoh.

Don't buy too much though as you may not need it? I only used less than half a tube - despite baby destroying my nipples in the early days. I only needed it for a month or so and I've been bf'ing for 8 months now.

X

Thanks ladies! Unanimous that it's the best of the best then. I wasn't planning to stock up massively but will probably have a tube for my changing bag and then one upstairs and one downstairs just for ease really in those first few days. Thanks everyone for your words of wisdom. I've been using the cheap one on my chapped lips so it's not going to waste! :D

Honestly...just get the one tube. Get a little basket with all your breastfeeding supplies in...muslin, magazine etc and pop one tube in there to carry about the house with you.

I didn't use a whole tube (I just found it in my cabinet while nesting for baby number 2) and I fed until he was 13 months. Once your nipples toughen up a little you wont need it. I would just get the one.

xx

Its fab stuff - worth every penny

You will only need one tube or maybee two, one for bag/downstairs and one for upstairs. Ive had two tubes and on third bf child now, last two For 12 and 13 mths, my baby is 6 weeks and i dont need it now

Right, that's settled. Got one for upstairs and one for changing bag/downstairs. Thanks for your wise words of wisdom ladies!! xx
