Nightfeeds Chat Thread

Clairexx when your LO suddenly got rubbish at sleeping, what we're they like when they woke up? Did they cry or just wake? Ella wakes now and always cries. Am hoping one day I'll wake up with sore boobs as she's slept for a long stretch, but she seems to be getting worse if anything! We had 2 evening wake up calls and OH had to bounce her to sleep on the exercise ball.
We're on our 2nd feed of the night already. See you in a few hours again probably :-(

Another 5 hr 10-3 stretch!! I keep leaking when I wake up though :-(

Henry did 3 hours (10-1) then just woken up after another 2 hours but I was awake for a full hour for the second stretch aghh I don't think he'll go back down after this feed so its co sleeping for us now which means I won't sleep all that well :-( boo!!

Are you noticing your lo's going longer between feeds too? I was getting worried as max the last couple of nights has gone 3-3.5 hours n he was every 1.5-2

Always cries... Not at first sometimes so I do leave it for a while until he cries, but the only time he wakes up gracefully is in the morning when he's up for the day.

It's also difficult as sometimes I think I've gone to him too soon but I'm worries he might go mental and then wake my bigger boy.

Did you ever have better stretches or has it always been this bad? Have you introduced any solids yet? Maybe she's a greedy baby so is waking up hungry? Xxx

Hello! May I join your thread? I'm very new to bf, lo is only 5 days old bless her!

Just to say that reading your threads makes me feel so hopeful! We're up A LOT in the night now as it's all so new (milk only came in yesterday) so far tonight lo slept 6pm - 9, had change and feed then has been up 11:15-11:45, 1-2:45, 3:05-3:40, 4:10 til now! So averaging about 20 mins between feeds :(

At what point do they start going for a bit longer? During the day she goes about 2 - 2.6 hours between. Tonight more like 20 mins...

Look forward to getting at least a couple if hours' sleep between... Hopefully soon! X

Hi Chloe and welcome! Congrats on your little baby!

Yes the beginning is the absolute worst and there is no difference between night and day! It does get better every week though and by 8 weeks they tend to find a little routine for themselves. I think by 6 weeks my boy was going 2-3 hours between feeds at night? And they went from being sometimes 2 hours long each time (inc nappy and settling), to half hour - 1 hour Max. You're doing great though so just make sure you try and rest as much as you can whenever you can. Don't worry about housework, plant yourself on the sofa in the day with lots of chocolate and the remote and make sure oh looks after you xxx

Hi Chloe, it does get much better quickly and your body also adjusts to the crazy sleep pattern too :-)

I was right about Henry not settling after his feed... He's wide awake kicking next to me in bed. Tried rocking, singing etc and he's just not having it. I'm tired and cold...house is bloody freezing!

Hi chloe! Congratulations. As above, the first couple of weeks are so hard! I used to cry I was so tired, hang in there as it gets better and don't expect too much of your LO too soon. They'll learn to sleep better at night eventually. Hannah virtually always does 5 hours at the start of the night and has done since about 2 or 3 weeks old so ebf babies do sleep well. Just keep at it. Bf is more demanding at first but easier in the long run if you ask me (no offence to ff).

Hannah did 11.30pm-4.30am. She sounds all snuffly again. Dammit
Seems to be fast asleep again now. ...fx

Hey Chloe! I only bf for 2 weeks but it dies get better, was around every 3ish hours by 2 weeks at night for me! Cluster feeding in the evening tho, but the ladies here will give you so much support to get through it :)! I wish I could have continued :(, but on immunosuppressants so had to stop :( xxx

Hello all. Looks like bubbas r sleeping for longer yay well far fed at 5.30pm/11pm/3.30am and 8am so not too bad. Im taking her into work today. I work at a school and they have a programme where the year 1 kids learn to empathise with babies and feelings. So as I had a baby im being used for 1 class. They watch her grow throughout the year and I visit approx once a month. It's good cause I keep in contact with staff and people at work too! X

She used to be a great sleeper, Claire. She has never slept through but I've had up to a 7 hour stretch. She always used to wake, make little sucking noises, I'd feed her and she'd go straight back to sleep. Then 4 months hit and she always wakes up crying and the only way to get her to stop is to feed her.
We started weaning 2 weeks ago so she still only has a veg puree at lunch time. She hasn't cut back on any milk though. My midwife did suggest moving on to evening porridge next in case it was because she was hungry.
Ella's exactly the same as your's by the sounds of it. She wakes up crying at night but when she wakes up for the start of her day, she's all smiles. Strange baby!

Just to check, do you count the time between feeds from the start of 1st feed to start of 2nd feed, or is it end of 1st feed to start of 2nd? X

I count from the start of feeds.

Bad evening here. Sicky baby all day very unusually and epic nappy with poo up the back. Tears and tummy ache. Gave her gripe water with a couple of expressed oz and fussy on the boob but finally had a decent feed.
It's late now so praying she sleeps soon
She's really sweaty/clammy too but no fever.

Hope you all have good nights xx

Hi ladies.

Hope Hannah is ok bex and has settled down now.

After a brilliant few nights we're having a not so great night. Seren went to bed about 7.30 but then woke at 10.30, argh! Now she's already up for second feed, no 5/6 hour stretches tonight :-( even though I kept telling myself the good sleeping might change its still come as a bit of a disappointment. And oh is really annoying me because he's blissfully sleeping and hasn't got a clue, even his breathing is winding me up!

Hope others are doing better xxx

Hope she's settled now Bex and feeling a bit better, poor thing.

Ammdaz, there's nothing worse than when they don't have a good sleep when you know they're capable of it iykwim!! Hope you get some more sleep

Just doing first feed, put Henry down 4 hours ago and he's never done any longer than 4 hours yet so I can't complain. 5/6 hour stretches seem like a dream!! X

Hope things sete back down for you Bex and Amanda!

Jack done 5 hours again, went down at 930, just waiting on the all brighter now lol x

I think my milk monster has finally accepted you sleep 5 hour stretches at night! Mum came and helped me yesterday evening because I was at breaking point, and he had pjs on and a 3oz bottle at 6.30. Meant he slept till 10.15!! I was very concerned he wouldn't sleep now, but got him down just before 11, woke just before 4 - woohoo!!!
