We had a bad night as expected because H went to bed to early.

I don't know what to do ladies!?

He is literally ready for bed at 6pm as he doesnt nap in the day, he needs to go to bed at 8.30 to get a good nights sleep with only 1 nightfeed. But thats 2 & a half hours of crying miserable baby. I can delay it for about an hour with walking round, singing, rocking ect. But that only takes us til 7 & I then get screaming baby routine, so I end up giving in & giving him his bedtime bottle, and putting him to bed!

If I give him a bath that can help by half & hour, but I don't want to bath him every night as his skin gets very dry.

Never thought I'd ask this but, any ideas for helping keeping him awake? Or better yet, getting him to nap in the day?

I think getting him to nap in the day is the key, I don't think you can expect him to stay awake any later otherwise. DS didn't like napping in the day so I know it can be a struggle. I think you just need to try a few different methods and see what works for getting him to drop off as different things work for different babies.

DS would only fall asleep on the boob, in the car or in the pram so depending on what I needed to do in the day I would either let him nap on me after a feed, take him for a walk in the pram or time going out in the car with naptime. Not sure if any of these would work for H?

Seren is a bit easier, she'll doze off in a variety of ways but not everything works all the time! One thing that always works is the wrap, have you tried using a sling with H?

One good tip is to make sure you try getting him to sleep at the first sign of tiredness. If you leave it too long he'll get overtired and won't settle and he'll also probably get a 'second wind' and wake right up again!

Hopefully if you can get him to nap in the day he'll naturally stay awake a bit later in the evening. Some babies do just naturally get sleepy quite early though and I think to a certain extent you have to go with it when they are so young. You might find if he gets some good naps in the day he'll sleep better at night anyway - sleep breeds sleep and all that! Good luck xxx

Toby had a bad night, slept for 2 hours from 10til 12 then fed continuously or 4 hours- I had to co sleep as I was so tired, had to be up at 630 to get the girls ready for school :(. He still doesn't go more than 2 hours between feeds- at a stretch it's three hourly in the day. My oh keeps saying I need to give in and give formula but I refuse, he is growing beautifully and I am enjoying the feeding, think I may try expressing Nd introducing a bottle once in a while now that he is six weeks old.

Just reading through your posts from last night ladies, yay for co-sleeping! I'd get very little sleep if it weren't for that! She tends to sleep in her basket ok for the first 3 hours of the night, about 10-1am/11-2am, but she won't go back after that so it is hourly little bits of b/feeding throughout the rest of the night with me waking up for a couple of minutes to help her latch on. Hopefully she'll stay longer and longer asleep the first time round then I won't have to worry about getting her back down.

We had a bad night Serena was waking every 2hrs she'd wake up sounding like she was choking again and in pain. . She's been sick quite a few times again today can't get a docs appointment until this time next week. .
She's screaming at being put down all that soothes her is the boob.. and that's starting to take its toll on my poor nips...
Hope you all have a better night xx

I got told (Although I don't know if its true as it was a friend that told me) that if a baby needed an appointment. they have to see them the same day. might be worth a bit of googling :) regardless though it sounds like something that should warrent an urgent appointment! xx

Thanks Spin xx think I'm going to go in there tomorrow I really think she needs to see someone. . Xx

Seonaid they shouldn't be making you wait that long for an appt for such a young baby. I know my gp has always tried to squeeze me in the same day when I've needed to take one of the kiddies, not sure if its official policy or not but if I were you I'd certainly push to be seen sooner xxx

Thanks hun I will. .. xx my docs is a mare for appointments. . If she got worse I was going to go to a & e.. xx

Managed to keep H up til 8.30 today so hoping we only have one nightfeed tonight!

Got HV coming for my "PND Assessment" tomorrow. Nervous as to what she thinks. I'm feeling more positive this week though, so it may be a waste of her time!

Fingers crossed for tonight ladies!

Well done for keeping H up Sara. Are you worried you may have pnd or is it just a general check up? Xxx

J went down at 9.20. So hopwfully another normal night. See u at 2.30 I hope x
