I have my first class tommorow and im so nervous im not good in group situations as im shy and quiet most of the time around people i dont know, just wondering what to expect and if i have to take anything with me like my notes ??

Yes you need to take your notes. Enjoy! x

Same as i didnt need my notes...
Mine were split into 2 classes - labour and pain relief, stage 1 and then the 2nd class was the next 2 stages and complications of labour.
We only did group work in the first class and nothing in the 2nd class x

I didn't need notes. I really enjoyed my classes that started on thurs and will run for 6 weeks. We had a huge group - maybe 12/14 women (no daddies, they get invited to a fathers night at the birthing centre). the midwife was really friendly and didn't push us all to talk and join in, it just happened naturally that everyone has short chats in the break with each other about due dates, aches and pains etc!!
Keep in mind that when little one arrives you might need the support of people at the classes - you actually might end up making lifelong friends with people who are experiencing the exact same thing as you at same time.
Xxx

im just back its was good there was only a few of us and the lady taking the class was funny made us all feel at ease just went over labour signs and all the info for the OH's, there are 3 more classes evry 2 weeks the next is all the good stuff like bathing baby and feeding then the following 2 are on pain relif and labour and i didnt need my notes but i suppose it was better to have them and not need them im actually looking forward to the next one :)

sorry for spelling it seems baby is using all my brain power :(

see this is where i wonder if i have a rubbish nhs trust as we had 2 classes and thats it, nothing abotu after baby is born they said if you want to be shown how to bath your baby then itll either be done in hospital or out in the comunity. Good job im staying at my mums for a week so i know how to deal with things. Myabe im just in a ranting mood over it x

A couple of us are in Scotland so that might be why there could be a bigger difference. Thing 'health' is a devolved issue. (we get free prescriptions). But I know even within my own region (Dumfries and Galloway) things are different from town to town. It's all just hit and miss.
(and this region also does NOT offer epidurals at all!!!)

Hi

Are your husbands/partners attending the classes with you. Mine are on a Monday 10-12 for four weeks, husband not sure if he will take the time off work

Mine start on Thursday this week fir next 4 Thursday's! Hubs is coming whether he likes it or not!! He's going to do something for once lol xx

oh will be going to all of them but they are on a saturday which is great, dont think he could get the time off otherwise but there was a few ladies there that had there mums with them and a girl on her own

It wa quiter amusing watching all the OH's x

Dads don't come to ours (although I'm sure no one would stop them if they wanted to!). They have a one off dads/birthing partners night at the ward where seemingly they get told a few important things like: when the mummy wants something whilst in labour, she means she wants it NOW and the other important thing of don't annoy the mummy whilst she's concentrating!!! Important stuff!!
