Hi, Im new to this so please bare with me if i dont understand some of the terms used. Im 28 and have under my GP for the last 4 years regarding my periods. I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid 2 years ago and my GP put every problem with my body down to that. I knew something wasnt right and continued to visit frequently until i was diagnosed by a endocrinologist last month with PCOS. i am now under a fertility consultant as we have been ttc for over 2 years. I have been given metformin to take twice daily. dose started at 500mg and will increase to 2000mg over the next 4 weeks.
I have been experiencing bad stomach cramps and find that my body doesnt seem to want to hold any food im eating. im either on the toilet a lot or vomitting.
Has/ Is anyone taking metformin? Do you have any advice on the best times/ways to take it?

Also, has it helped anyone concieve? ive read some forums that women have comment saying they concieve within 4 days?!

SORRY FOR THE ESSAY. any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi. I was put on metformin as I am diabetic and it didn't agree with me at all. For most people within two weeks it settles down but never did for me. There is a slow release version which doesn't act quite as fast so you can time your day better. I would take mine before dinner so I was at home for any side effects. Unfortunately the slow release didn't change my sugar enough so I am now on something new.

Metformin is commonly used for PCOS and I do think it has helped ladies to conceive. I think its just something that you have to give a good few weeks to see whether or not it works for you.

Thanks sugarpop.

im coming to the end of week 2 on them. due to increase my dose again on monday. fingers crossed the side effects pass.

I'm on 1500mg for mild PCOS. It does make me sick if I eat sweet or greasy foods. However, it has definitely helped other symptoms of my condition such as period pain.

I was diagnosed the pcos 11 years ago, was put on metformin abptut two months ago, im on 1000mg a day, side effects arent t bad for me as long as i eat something before i take it.

I did have an upset stomach at first, but that passed after a while.

Unfortunately, hasnt helped my cycle or symptoms at all and I haven'thad a period now since june, so I will be starting progesterone monday and then clomid when AF starts.

I wilp continue to take the met tho because they do say it can take a few months to work/get used to. At this point though i honestly feel like myo inositol has hepled more than metformin in the past. It works differently for different people though, so stick with it, take it with food, and stick to a low carb diet.

Good luck xx
