Hi
Got my BFP last week, not sure of my dates as my cycle was so irregular, but my LMP was 5th October. It was such a surprise as we'd only been trying a few weeks!
I'm off to the Dr's next week to find out what I should be doing next

Wish I could get excited but I am just worrying, worrying, worrying. My cousin had a gorgeous little baby girl last year but found out soon after she was born that she had Downs, which came as a huge surprise to everyone, especially as his wife is only 27. I know this sounds stupid, but am I am now at a higher risk of having a baby with Downs? I'm not sure if it's hereditary and am too scared to search on the net (too much knowledge is a bad thing!)
Just wondering if anyone could offer any advice?
Looking forward to getting to know you all!
xx

Hiya and welcome. Its so natural to feel worried and I understand your concerns about downs given whats happened. I suppose you need to ask yourself the question, what would you do if you knew for sure your baby had it. Thats something only you could decide.
I didnt have the test or the spina bifida one as I couldnt do anything about it even if I knew for sure.
Downs babies can be so loving, how is your cousins baby,

You are right though, too much knowledge can be a dangerous thing especially at the beginning when you can be prone to analysing every little thing. Thats not to say though that you shouldnt ask or speak to your gp or mv about it.

How do you feel about it today?

Hi Cookie!!!

I know you worry a lot. We all do in the beginning and you can't do anything about it. Just try to calm yourself down somehow. Try to distract you. I was working with Down-Kids and they are really cute. I'm early in my pregnancy and I always find something to worry about. Which is not good

I don't know if your on a "higher risk" for a Down-Baby. But it can happen to all of us can't it. Ask your doc about it. He might be able to help you out a bit.

Have a nice day and try to keep your mind busy Hun.

Hiya - welcome aboard and huge congratulations!

We're all in the same boat re. non-stop worrying so you've come to the right place! I was the same to start with with my first, but I realised that there was no point stressing about the things I could do nothing about, and to concentrate on areas where I could have a positive impact (i.e. healthy diet and relaxation!!)

Hopefully you'll get past it too and start to enjoy your pregnancy. Do you have any symptoms yet?

LBxx

thanks for all your kind words
feeling a bit weepy today, haven't had many other symptoms so am beginning to wonder if I am even pregnant - weird huh?
My cousins baby is gorgeous but her arrival seems to have affected the family in a strange way.........nobody seems to know how to cope or what to say
really really don't know what I would do if I was in the same boat...trying not to think about it and concentrate on the positives!
will spk to my GP about it on Thursday
thanks again
xx

Hi Cookie,

I'm sorry I can't answer your questions - but I just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS on your news!!! I have just found out myself and am very shell shocked (to say the least) but I don't think any of us believe it until we see that first scan!

Looking forward to getting to know you and stay healthy

congrats on your BFP :cheer: its normal to worry about everything, we all do it

make sure you talk to your doc or mw about your concerns about downs syndrome. they will be able to advise further on whether you could be at a higher risk or not.
