It dawned on me recently that I've never had a positive pregnancy test. Ever.

I've had 2 rounds of IVF both failed and even though I had embies left after 3 day transfer (6 first cycle and 4 second cycle) they've never made it to blast and I've never had any left to freeze.

So what's that all about?! Are my eggs crap - is that why my embies don't implant / make it to blast for freezing?!
Can anyone shed any light?! What can I ask at my next appointment - are there any further tests I need / can ask for?!

Last summer I was at the point that we'd been trying for 3 years with 2 fresh IVF cycles and 2 IUI's behind us and never a positive test and apparently no resin why, we amazingly had 1 frozen embryo from our most recent cycle and before going ahead with the FET we wanted more tests incase something had been missed, we tested for NK cells and all was fine, we then decided to do an endo scratch and use embryo glue for our FET and amazingly we got our first ever BFP but it wasn't to be and it lasted less than a week :(
We've just done our 3rd fresh cycle, still no reason for no pregnancy and I'm currently on the 2WW with a great blast and amazingly we got 2 great ones frozen.
I've been told my eggs look really good, my hormone levels are great so that's one less thing I worry about affecting the embryos.

Something I think changed things for us in terms of getting frozen embryos and blasts was protocol, the first cycle we did long and got 14 eggs, 13 mature & 12 fertilised of those almost all (I think was 11) were still doing good at day 3 but by day 5 we didn't even have a blast or anything that was considered good and couldn't believe how things could change in 2 days, apparently the sperm takes over from day 3 but not sure how much truth is in this.
Our 2nd fresh we switched to short protocol using Gonal F and same dose again and this time we got 12 eggs, 8 mature and 7 fertilised and although the numbers were less there was a noticeable difference in embryo quality at the day 3 mark over the previous cycle, we had two fab blasts and a 3rd that just missed being good enough to freeze and our most recent cycle was the same protocol as the 2nd but my Gonal F dose was dropped from 150iu to 100iu after a week, again we got 12 eggs and this time 11 were mature and 10 fertilised, we transferred a blast and froze 2 great blasts this time much to our amazement.

So things change with every cycle but I'd be asking about trying a different protocol, endo scratch, perhaps day 3 transfer, maybe putting you both on some vitamins

Moley, both cycles we did we have never had any to freeze, yet clearly one of our embies was strong enough to hang in there this time! We had three blasts transferred, all of similar quality and only one stuck - who knows how this all works.

However, our second clinics opinion is that this can definitely be due to sperm quality, rather than than egg quality sometimes, so there may be something in this.

Is your funding NHS? Just wondering if you need a second opinion in terms of protocol like Tiinkerbell says, if your clinic isnt responsive. What is your lining like at transfer? What drugs have they tried for support post transfer? There are so many variables, it can be hard to pinpoint the problem, or if it is just purely down to statistics - the more cycles you do, the more likely it is to work kind of thing!

So frustrating and complicated.xxx

Wow, Tinkerbell you've cycled again! So nice to see you back - good luck for your tww honey!

Hi Tinks / Mishi

Thanks so much for your replies.

I just don't know what to think or do.

I've been on the short protocal both times and they said that's to do with my AMH?!

First time I had 12 eggs collected 8 fertilised by IVF 2 embryos transferred on day 3 none of the other 6 made it Blast for freezing. Second cycle had 12 eggs collected 6 fertilised (3 by IVF and 3 by ICSI) 2 embryos transferred on day 3 and none of the other 4 made it to blast for freezing.

I was on 300u of gonal F first time and was upped to 375u second time. Stimmed for 14 days first time and 16 days second time. Was on cetrotide. Triggered with ovitrelle first time and suprecur second time with them giving me gonasi after egg collection.

I have so many questions for my follow up I'm making a list. I just don't know what else they can do on NHS for me. I think I want my blocked tube removed I'm worried its affecting my utuerus and stopping implantation?! Is that a possibiluty?!

I'm not sure that your blocked tube would prevent implantation hon.

Do you know how thick your lining has been at transfers? Has hubby had sperm DNA fragmentation done?

Good luck in your 2WW Tinks!! Fingers and toes crossed for you.

The reason I'm worried about the tube stopping implantation is on one of my monitoring scabs second time round there was fluid in my uterus which I read is toxic and even if it goes which it did it leaves behind a toxic environment. Afterwards they said it was just CM but I'm not so sure. As I've seen different consultants all the time I just don't know what to think. They've always said OH sperm was fine so didn't even think it could be a problem. Will ask about DNA fragmentation testing on my follow up appointment. Thanks Mishi
