not sure if anyone can help . . . anone have an advice or views on playing netball whilst pregnant???

The leagues I'm in are very competetive and I come back VERY Red and hot - - I get breathless easily . .

Luckly it stopped for Christmas and Nw Year - butit's just started up again and not sure what to do . . I've used an excuse of a bad knee . . but not sure I can keep going till 12 weeks!

My pregnancy book I got with my bounty pack says avoid sports where you may come in to contact.

Personally I would steer clear of it too.

Generally it's advised to avoid contact sports. Having not played netball since I was a kid I can't remember how much contact there is. Also you are advised to not be sedentary. I am continuing martial arts but without the contact, but all the other bits. However, have found that I am generally slower, so I am likely to just participate in the warm up.

I'm a netball player! You shouldn't play when you are pregnant. Although netball is a non contact sport there is normally some contact during a match and it can be dangerous. It's very physical.

I used a bad knee as an excuse to my team mates although 2 of them knew the truth so that made it easier to lie! I just said that I was waiting to see a specialist about my knee injury...but I already had an existing knee problem so it was easy to convince them all.

Having said all that one of my team mates played until she was 6 months gone and never told anyone on the team and we were non the wiser. But I certainly wouldn't advise that, she was stupid to do it in my opinion.

By the way...what position do you play?!

Definately not! Too much stretching involved, risks of being hit in stomach with bal, falling over and coming into contact with other players, try swimming and walking instad to keep fit

Hello - I play Centre mainly - but can play GA to. . and play 4 times a week as well as training (well used to!!). . . Funnily enough - I've used a bad knee as an excuse . . The first game is tonight and I've got a strapping to wear (When go to watch them!) :( I read in the ruls it were 12weeks you had to give up by - but you must know its not really non-contact . . and at it can get very physical . . . If i don;t play to my normal ability i think it'll obvious . . but me and HB said we promised we'd tell no one . . . . ad I'd like to stick to that!!! If i tell each captain thats 4 people that know and more change of something leaking :(

Thanks for the advice - think I'm going to play on the bad knee for 2 more weeks, then say I've got a doctors appointment, that'll be another 2 ish and then I'll say he's referred me - that give me 3 weeks and I can tell them the truth!! I hate lying . . . but know its for the best! :wall:

Also the raising of your core body temp isn't good. Anything that causes you to overheat/exert in such a way is best avoided.

I always think it's strange that it's classed as a non contact sport when in all honesty you get battered...well in my league you do!
You must be flippin' fit to play Centre... I'm GD and thats enough running for me
