Has anyone done this or think it works? My mother in law swears by it and says it is always accurate? Basically lay flat on the bed and hold a threaded needle above your belly as still as possible. After a few seconds it will either start to go round in circles or go up and down from head to toe. Circles apparently is a girl, head to toe is a boy. I have done it 5 times now and every time its circles but i don't know if i believe old wives tales to be certain lol x

To be quite honest with you as far as I'm concerned it's all down to micromovements in your hands. It's the same with Ouija boards. It's not a conscious decision but the human body can never stay perfectly still so every little twitch is exaggerated by the length of the string and interpreted. If you are hoping for it to go in circles or if you think it looks like it's going in circles your subconscious will cause tiny movements in your hand which perpetuates the movement.

Derren Brown explains it better than me in his book but basically it's the above.

sorry I just realised that sounded really nasty and patronising. I honestly didn't mean it to come outlike that

Was just trying to explain it. It might well work but personally I can't see how and I'm a bit of a science geek so always want explanations for stuff like that.

Sorry if that was really rude!!!

Both say girl. done them about four times each. We will see. Got my scan in four weeks.

I don't understand how it works either, and i wasn't hoping for it to go in circles, it just did :? I think its just a bit of fun myself and if it turns out to be accurate when we finally get to 20 weeks then MIL will be chuffed to bits her little experiment worked again lol.

LOL bless her!

I will be very interested to see what sex it is :) 50/50 chance she's right!!
