Morning all,

I went doctors last week tuesday to confirm my pregnancy, and i thought i was only 11 weeks pregnant by the dates of my lmp but the doctor had told me that i am 15weeks and 4 days and that i have missed my first scan.

so now i will have to wait until week 20 which i think is unfair,he also told me the midwife will call me for a booking in appointment how long does that take and should i call the doctors back on tuesday to see whats going on .

What should i do about the scan as i am worried because i know nothing about the baby.

Thank you.x x

I would call the doctors on Mon and politely chase your midwife appointment - and then speak directly to her regarding your scan!

I didnt have my booking in appointment with the MW until I was 16 weeks, so there isnt a big problem there. If they wont let you have a scan on the NHS then personally I would probably book a private one, just for peace of mind!

The 20 week scan is generally a little late for dating, so I would have thought your MW will arrange one sooner rather than later. Your Expected delivery date is estimated at the first scan, regardless of the date of your last period, and this is the date used then throughout your pregnancy!

Good luck, but am sure you will get it all sorted next week

Hiya,

I really don't think that it should matter that your past 12 weeks, I went to the doctors when I was around 10 weeks and they didn't actually book me in for the scan until I was 15 weeks as they were busy. All it meant was that I had to have a different type of test for Down's Syndrome.

When I called the doctors to tell them I was pregnant and needed to see the doctor the receptionist just booked in for a midwife's appointment and the scan then on the phone so maybe you should call your doctors tomorrow and ask to see a midwife as soon as possible and talk to the midwife about the scan.

I think that's a bit unfair that they won't put you forward for the 12 week scan just because you're a little bit further ahead then that! Your midwife is probably going by the date of your last period anyway so you might not even be asfar gone as she says. I would ring the maternity unit at the hospital and book ir yourself! The 1st scan is really important for dating and making sure all looks ok with baby...it's a bit long to wait for the 20 week one! xxx

Thanks for your replys,

I will call the doctors tomorrow and it is just that peace of mind so i know everything is ok.

just a question how did he/she know you were 15 weeks and not 11? just out of intrest :D , mabe you should ask the midwife for a dating scan?

MW must be going by 1st day of last period...they always do that to get your estimated date. I went for my 1st scan when I thought I was 12 weeks but was actually just over 10. You really need that 1st scan to make sure baby is ok and get a proper indication of how many weeks you really are.

I had to book my own scan at the maternity unit in my local hospital so if you ring up and say "I need to book a dating scan", they should let you do it yourself. Not all community midwives refer women for them these days :) xxx

LMP 24 september

27th oct-1st nov' I had bowny pinkish discharge

1st-7th nov ' I had bleeding but it was light

So i thought i had a period in november but the doctor said it was implantation bleeding, I did think of that but because of what I have read i didnt know it could last that long so it was a bit con fusing.

Hmmm...even the period before the last "bleed" could be spotting if it wasn't all that heavy...only way to be sure is with your datng scan :( I don't see any reaswon why you can't book one yourself on the NHS. You've already seen a midwife, but you can explain you're not sure about the dates. Good luck with it, let us know how you get on :D

Thats weird.. your doctor has told you how far gone you are.. the first scan is the dating scan. It's at that scan that your date is confirmed.. not by doctors word.. or at least that's what I thought. The first scan is important to make sure the baby is growing properly and there is no problems. The second scan is again an Abnomaly scan and a sexing scan for the parents who arent choosing the green team. I would definately ask MW.. and as soon as you can.
