I've just recieved confirmation that mine start on June 6th.
Has anyone attended NCT classes...what are they like?
I'm so excited that things finally seem to be moving and happening!!

whats NCT? is it like parentcraft? if so i'v been to just one of those so far, they just talked thru the signs of labour, methods of pain releif and stuff we'd need to take to hosp x

we dont get letters, we just turn up to them if we want to go..

i dont go though

NCT = National Childbirth Trust - www.nct.org

Basically they are antenatal/parentcraft classes but they are private instead of the free NHS ones and done in much smaller groups. Classes are around the £120 marker.

Yes I have been going to these, along with DH.

They are much better than the NHS classes, and much more personal. They also organise a load of post-natal get-togethers and so-on to get you out the house after baby arrives.

I'm sure you'll enjoy them and find them very useful.

no but my nhs class is on the 26th of may :D , its 1 day long and split into 3 different workshops

HelloKitty: Thanks I think I'm really going to enjoy them, we signed up due to smaller/more intimate groups etc, it's such a personal experience I didn't want to be one of 14 couples plus staff (30 people in total!!) in an NHS class it just seemed so many for such an intimate and personal experience.

Tangerine: I think your class sounds great, one day split into three parts etc. Our NHS organised ones are evenings for a few weeks (didn't quite pick up the exact details) where as a one off workshop type day I might have gone for. I hope you enjoy it, it's so exciting that things are finally starting to happen huh!!

Hi

I went to onewhen pregnant with Kiara , with about 8 couples so it was a bitof a smaller group. I liked it didnt learn much but met some nice people , although we didnt keep in touch. :)

That's good to hear though I moved to this area upon my engagement I've never been to school here, never worked here etc and thus I know no-one what so ever. I'm looking forward to the classes as a social outlet also since we will all be in the same boat....most of my friends live miles away.

a couple of my friends joined up with the NCT and even now 7/8 years later are still in regular contact with the people that they met at the initial classes. When one of my friends moved to a new area the first thing she did was contact the local branch of NCT to enable her to meet others in the area with same age kids etc. Maybe I should start a group over here!!!!

Why not?? I think that's a fantastic idea if you have the time etc to devote to it. I'm sure they would love to have more clubs up and running and to be able to boast about one in Greece too...I think that's an amazing idea. They are already really strong in our area so a pointless thought for me but a great networking opportunity I suppose.

I should hopefully hear any day then as to when my NCT classes start.... am looking forward to it too. It seems to be very well organised where I live. My sister has a 3 year old and she still meets her original NCT group every fortnight, they take it in turns to host an afternoon tea party for the children - they love it!

I haven't booked for NCT classes although I have looked into it. My local NHS class has been cancelled :( Not sure now what we will do. I was given the phone number for the lady who organises hospital classes but every time I've rang the number it's just rang and rang with no answer

I hope your classes go well Nicola. I have heard good things about the NCT (especially about their nearly new sales :D )

The NHS classes are fine too, its just that you only get the bare bones.

For example weve covered labour for about 8 hours with the NCT, but the NHS class talked about the whole process in 20 minutes. Also so far in both my NHS classes the midwife has been half an hour late, which is irritating.
