Hi ladies,

I'm looking for a bit of advice about nappy bins,

I live in a first floor flat & space is very limited so I really don't know what to do about the dreaded dirty nappies!

I don't want to fill our regular rubbish bin with stinky nappies and it's so small I'd be emptying it twice every day, but I don't have the option of just nipping outside & popping the nappy in the outside bin as this means going down a flight of stairs, through a bolted gate & down an alleyway, all the while the baby would be upstairs alone in the flat!

What have other mum's done? Help!

You can buy a nappy wrapper, they take about 20 something nappies and are supposed to keep the smell down.

I've got a Tommee Tippee nappy wrapper. The refills aren't particularly cheap but it's neat and works well. I keep mine in the bathroom (I'm in a bungalow) and empty it every 3 days or so.

Thanks so much ladies, I may invest in a nappy wrapper - they sound great!

I am still having the disposable v re-usable nappies debate with myself & think that certainly for the first couple of weeks we will go with disposable, just until we get the hang of having a wee bambino. Then we will look at getting some re-usables.

If we go with the re-usables, will we need a bin to soak the smellies in?

Sorry if I sound like a complete novice, but, well, I am

dont worry i am too! im determined to make cloth nappies work. My mum is giving me about £250 to invest in some so Im gonna go and speak to a real nappy adviser at John Lewis. I think there are some kinds you dont need to soak  I believe they have come a long way from the nappies my mum used to 'pin' me up in as a baby.

I found this thread really useful

i dont have a nappy bin i just put it in my household bin and make OH take the bin out when he gets home
i wish i did buy one though both of my 2 are still in nappies my house always stinks :puke:

At the time I thought they'd be a waste of money so I didn't buy one, I wish I had now though - I hate opening my kitchen door and smelling dirty nappies :puke:

Hi all, well I've done my research & found that Tesco are doing the Tommy Tippee Nappy Wrapper for £14.97 at the moment, half price!

They are available on line & I've also seen them in store...!

Has anyone seen the cassettes for a reasonable price?

kiddicare.com are good for cassettes but you should get quite a lot in 1 go because the postage isn't cheap. If you get 8 it works out very good, and that should keep you going for a while!

i cant stand the smell of the nappy bin wrappers, i rather use a nappy bag with scent and put in normal bag.

but now i use cloth nappies so dont have the problem, dont have a smell bucket of nappies either, we have a waterproof bag with a draw string stop to stop smells coming out and the whole thing goes in the washing machine with the nappies. and the smell of fresh washed nappies hanging about is lush

We bought the Tommee Tippee nappy wrapper bin yesturday from Mothercare, they have it at half price atm too and also the 4pack refills have 5pounds off.

I just use a bin with a lid from wilko's 99p i only use nappy bags if Dylan does a poo ..i put hooer freshners in the bottom of the bin and my house doesn't smell of poo ecept the aroma in the room.

I had one of the Sangenic ones with my daughter 8 years ago. Wasn't that impressed as it was supposed to twist the nappies in the film to form a string of 'sausages' but didn't work very well.

This time around I use scented nappy bags, 250 in a box for a quid from my local pound shop. Bargain!
