Thea was examined by the paediatrician today, she was worried about her hips as she doesn’t appear to have full movement in them :( The dr's English wasn’t great either so we had no idea how big or small the problem actually was.

Later in the day a surgeon came to see her. He examined her and said that she will need an ultrasound on her hips at 4 weeks to confirm it but he is fairly sure she has a problem with her muscles around her hip joints, that they are shortened and this is why she doesn’t have full flexibility in them. My poor girl screamed through the exam, he was pulling and twisting her legs and I just wanted to hit and tell him to get his hands off my baby!

So now until this ultrasound can be done we have to exercise her hips every time we change her nappy and after her bath. I did it tonight and I felt like crap. She screamed and screamed and by the time we were done I was in tears too.

Apparently these exercises can be really good though and stop any need for surgery so I know we have to carry on with them, it just breaks my heart to do it.

 Melanie

It must've been awful seeing Thea in such a state when the Dr was examining her, noone likes to see their little darling upset. Remember the Dr is acting in Thea's best interest, better this get picked up now so that you can do the exercises and hopefully prevent surgery. Your wee girl is still very young and perhaps her screaming at nappy change will wear off soon - I know I was so freaked out by Olivia's constant screaming whenever I changed her nappy and was so glad when she stopped doing it! That will make it easier for you to do the exercises then.

Take care

Lucy

awww hun  i wish i could offer some advise. Hope it gets sorted - must be stressful xx

arrr poor little angel. Hope she corrects it herself hun xxx

Sorry that you've had a bit of an upset today Mel - try not to worry too much (easier said than done), there is plenty of time for Thea's hips to right themselves, the scan I'm sure is just a precaution.

Poor little Thea, it must be so hard suddenly coming into the world and being mauled around and having your nappy changed :( Leorah still often cries when we change her nappy and when she has stomache pains it renches my heart because I can't help her

I am sure Thea would cry even if you didn't do the exercises, I know that doesn't make it better but you will soon see that when its over and she gets a mummy cuddle its all forgotten until next time.

It is good news that they have picked up on a potential problem already. My niece had a similar problem with her ankle joints and wore a cast when she started walking and by six weeks she was fully cured and you would never know she had had a problem. I'm sure little Thea will be just fine
