Just got the date through for the end of Feb. It was as quick as I'd hoped, so that's fantastic.
I'm so nervous now, but so so excited. I'm a little put off that it's a male doctor - feels like a female would be far more understanding and want to help more. Silly I know.

The lady on the phone said the appointment would last around half an hour. This seems incredibly short, mind you. Can anyone tell me what I should expect from this first appointment?

Great news. On our first app they took medical history from us both, height and weight, filled in loads of paperwork about previous children and pregnancies, child abuse, adoption, criminal convictions that sort of thing. Oh they also asked our relationship history - how long we had been living together, how often we dtd, what types of contraception we had previously used with all partners. Then they arranged for more scans/tests for us both and that was all. Ours was with a female with a male student doctor too.

Are there any wrong answers I can give in that case? I'm so worried that for some reason he'll decide not to go ahead with anything.
Do you remember how long after your next appointment was? Perhaps that's where the longer wait will be.

Our first app was with the fertility nursing team, then we had to wait for the consultant app. Ours was supposed to be 4 months afterwards but it got delayed a few times as one of the consultants was ill so that knocked back our app as our consultant had to take on the others cases too.

I don't think there are any wrong answers as such, I think your answers decide what they test for to start with - eg we knew I had pcos so I had to have more scans to confirm etc.

Just wanting to say good luck. That's not even a couple of weeks away, that's fab :)
I have my gp appointment for our fertilty referral on Fri so I'm hoping it will be quite a short wait too xx

Do you know what clinic it is you are going to? We have our first appointment next Tuesday.

Hi there, our first fertility appointment was with the consultant and came through quickly after referral. We had to fill out an indepth questionnaire before our appointment which asked all about contraception, medical history, cycles, etc which we ran through at the meeting . I was also given an internal ultrasound. I was then asked to book in for an hsg which I luckily managed to get the following week. Now just waiting for our second appointment following a clear hsg result. Was told it will be within 12 weeks of our first appointment (currently been 6). I think every clinic differs on their procedures and I think it also depends on what tests you have already had. Good luck

We're going to Heavitree hospital in Exeter (I'm not sure if you're asking because you're down this way too?) - about an hours drive from us, but it would have been a six week wait if I'd gone local.
Please let me know how you get on?

I wasn't expecting an examination, so will prepare myself for that possibility! I just don't want to say or do anything wrong, in my mind they'll be looking for anything they can to not go ahead with any treatment. I worry that my depression and other illnesses will look bad.

No I meant which clinic in the hospital? We're going to the gynaecology clinic but still no idea what will happen. I've had all the scans, bloods etc and we know I'm not ovulating so not sure if they'll put me on meds or book me in for a test to make sure there's no blockages etc. I guess we'll see on Tuesday!

I don't think they will be looking for reasons not to do treatment, but they'll need to find the cause first so I imagine tests etc.

Ha! Sorry, letter is from department of gynaecology, but states fertility clinic.
Looks like we're in the same boat then - let me know what happens, won't you? And good luck xx

Yeah ours says the same. I can't remember if you've already said but do you know what's 'wrong'?

Of course, good luck to you too :)

PCOS they think. Have found cysts, my cycles are messed up, constant pain, but only very slightly high testosterone

At least they have something to work with then. Obviously we would prefer there was nothing wrong but at least you know what it is.

That's great news you have a date...

On our first visit we had to do all the medical history, weight, height etc...then we had to go through relationships etc...first time TTC, any abortions, any miscarriages the usual. Then hubby had to have a sperm test whilst he was there, they didn't send me for any tests because I had a regular period each month and not suffered from any medical conditions.

You will be fine xx

Sperm test while you were there? That'll make him panic lol

Yes the hospital we went to is a brand new built one that has every facility you can imagine lol It was easier for him to have it done at the same place

Thought I'd pop this here as well. Fertility appointment this morning. Although the consultant seemed fairly disinterested and knew nothing about previous tests, scans and PCOS, I was prescribed Clomid which is the outcome that I wanted. No more waiting - other than the start of my period. Fingers crossed things go well - but I'm really trying not to get my hopes up. Does anyone have any advice, tips, side affects? Any stories - successful or not would be lovely.
