mums that were induced.....

I was induced with baby number 3 and baby 4

I cant really remember 3...but i'll tell you no' 4..

went into hospital around 8am....examined and i was about 1/2cm dilated already, went onto the delivery suite about 10.30 am Robbie still wasn't engaged so the midwife couldn't break my waters, the doctor had to come and do it, because there was a risk of babies arm coming out when the waters were broken, so the midwife had to force babies head down to engage whilst the doc slowly broke my waters...this really hurt!
I had a few painful contractions but nothing regular so they set up the drip to get my contractions going...the pain then became unbearable so by the afternoon i asked for an epidural. It was all set up and the pain slowly eased away....but my contractions showed on the monitor that they had stopped....
when the midwife checked...my drip had come off and the fluid was all over the floor, so it seems i had not been getting the drip for a while!
She reconnected it and the pain was back and my word they hurt...i then learnt the epidural had failed. Later on I was examine 5pm and i was still only 5cm dilated.... about 8.30pm and i decided the pain was that bad i needed to have my epidural re-done, so the midwife was organising for the anaethatist to come and re-do it, he came and was just about to set up and I knew he didnt have time...he went to get the midwife and I needed to push...no time for pain relief....3 pushes later Robbie was born at 9.15pm

Slow labour and baby's bad position lead to a drip induction at 03:13am, then an epidural, then a prep for a c-section, then he was finally born after an episiotimy and forceps at 13:41pm that same day. I hope I never have to be drip induced again, personally I found it very hard, and the after effects from all the drugs was very upsetting too, I wouldn't consider induction before being 14days overdue, unless labour/waters breaking had started.

im petrified

they are going to try again tomorrow but dont hold out much hope

Just try and focus on remaining as calm as possible in the knowledge you will be holding your baby very soon, and you've as much possibility of having a positive induction, so think positive, lots of women do, you will be fine, very very best wishes

Hi Becky
Just joined forum because it sounds like you and I are going through the same thing, I am 40+13 and booked in for induction tomorrow. Been fighting it the whole way as desperately wanted natural water birth but hey those government guidelines! Anyway, I am also cervix posterior, not dilated, baby half posterior and only a bit engaged! I have also tried everything going and now have decided to accept that this may not be exactly what I was hoping for on the birth front but hey, we're going to have a baby in a matter of days! all those months of hoping baby was ok, and not quite believing we would get this far and now here we are. SO what I suggest is that you forget about the whole induction thing, it might be a fab birth after just 1 pessary, there's no reason why you should have a hard time, if you get excited about seeing your little one and focus on that, then your body will relax and things will progress nicely.
I wish you loads of luck and happiness as you see your gorgeous new baby, possibly at the same time I see mine - how lucky are we???
xx

Just want to say Good luck and I'm thinking of those of you being induced.

Soon your baby will be here and it will be worth it,
