Hi,

I've read in magazines that it's good to get your baby onto beakers as early as possible and I have some of the Avent ones that can be used from 3months +.

Can anybody give me some tips on how to move over to them and once baby is used to them do you use them for every feed?

Isaac is coming up to 3 months and I'm wondering how to start to introduce them.

Thanks

Sorry no advice, Damien is still fussy about them, but good luck! I've found the only one he will take a tiny bit from was a cheap tommee tippee free flow beaker. Messy but he couldn't use the non-spill one's.

Hi hun, harley is 4months and i think he seems way to behind to be able to drink from a beaker??

they do say from 3months but its something iv never took any notice off. Dior was 9months untill she had a beaker and shes fine.

but if you do get any tips pass them on for when i do try and change harley over :)

does Isaac have juice? is that what u want to try the beaker for?

Jack still doesn't get on with The Avent beakers
This tommee tippee one is what he really likes

I think 3 month is too young personally,I waited til i had weaned Jack and he was only on 1 bottle on a morning and 1 on a night

It took him a while to get used to it but as i said this is the best i have found for him

i waited until jamie was 4 1/2 months and got the tommee tippee beaker (from 4months+) have used the same sort of beaker ever since as its so simple for him to use.
I started my just giving him a beaker of water and let him play around with it, then id put it to his mouth and he soon got the hang of it! by 5/6 months he was on to a beaker with no probs!

I gave Charlie a beaker at 3 months for her juice and water, but she wont drink anything but milk! I try daily, but she wont have any thing. She plays with her beaker that i got her from morrisons, she knows how to do it, but usually she just throws it about lol!
Good Luck!

Isaac is still only on milk at the moment but I will try him with water when I try out the beakers. I'll invest in some Tommee Tippee ones as well then.

I don't want him to use bottles for water or juice if I have to go that way.

I'll give it a few more weeks first I think.

This new mum business is very confusing to know what to do for the best and when :?

I like the anywayupcups. At the moment Brody has the avent one as it's easy to get used to.

For milk in a beaker I would definielty recommend anywayup cups because there's no bits inside for milk to get stuck to....just the rubber valve in the spout so they are very easy to clean...I don't trust any other beaker with milk as they get dirty inside the spout and you can't get to it.

At first the anywayup cups are difficult to suck from, so I poke the valve with a fork at first to loosen it, you can buy replacement lids later.

God I sould like a saleswoman!

The tomme tippee cup i have for Jack is very much like an anywayup cup
dead easy to clean as everything is 'open' if that makes sense
and they don't need to suck hrad on it, if they grip it with teeth/gums it opens the spout

Braydon is 11 months soon and still dont take one all the time
all i can advice is offer it to him as much as possible

Elliott played with the Tommy Tippee cup from about 4 months but tended to wave it around lots getting water everywhere rather than trying to drink from it. Then when he started teething he just chewed the hard spout and then took such deep sucks that he choked on it. I then moved to the Avent soft spouts that fit the Avent bottles. The valve pops off really easily and apart from that it's all open and easy to clean (another reason I didn't want to use the Tommy Tippee with milk) and he doesn't chew them as they probably feel more like a spout. After two or three days of him being ok with the spout and the valve I took the valve off when giving him milk and this worked fine- basically it's just a free-flow soft spouted cup then. I still use the valve for the water though as he waves that about whereas the milk seems too important to him to wave! Lol! The next move will be the harder spout and then probably a proper cup.

i think ruben took to cups and beakers so well because i introduced them early - at 3 months. he's breastfed but has always had 1 bottle a day to supplement, so maybe he didn't have the time to get used to just the teats - i don't know. he still has his evening milkfeed from a bottle, but all his water has always been from a beaker. he has 2 beakers now, an avent one (started on the soft spout, he's now on the normal one. i changed as the white soft one ended up so stained by his dinners!) and a mothercare own brand one. he doesn't seem to have a preference. i got him a doidy cup as well, it can be messy (thank goodness for hard flooring) but he's quite good at drinking from it - or any normal cup or glass if he has some help for that sake. we tend to use the doidy at mealtimes here at home, and a spouted beaker when we're out and about as it's less mess!

Thanks everybody, this is food for thought that's for sure.

At what age should I start giving Isaac water? Is it when he starts to be weaned?

You can give water as a drink at any age hun

If you are breastfeeding there is no need for water until you start solids or formula. If you are bottle feeding you can give a bit of cool boiled water from any age. :)

Hi

I just stared to give Kiara a beaker at 6 months she still will only drink from it as a cup and make a huge mess or without the stopper in it which again is a bit messy she finds it hard to suck still :?
As for water im breastfeeding so only gave it to her starting at 6 months little sips , but its whatever you feel comfortable with :D i still aint given her juice as Bernie dont drink water so i want her ot like it lol
