Hi Ladies - wondering if anyone knows whether it would be a bad idea for me to go as a passenger for a two week biking holiday at around 9 weeks pregnant - we had the boat booked before we got the good news but now that it is getting closer we are both concerned about any dangers to the baby?

Hi Hun, I think it depends on the bike and the rider. I ride an r1 so def would say no to that but if you've got something like a gold wing it's like a settee on wheels lol
Also is the rider safe or is he/she a bit of a loon on the twisties, I learnt to ride because I couldn't stand the way oh rode lol

Xxx

Forgot to add do you think your leathers will be comfy??? X

We have a BMW 1200 GS and OH is semi sensible LOL but think he would be extra careful with me on the back at the minute - he is worried that the sound will effect the baby but I don't think the LO can hear until 16 weeks - he is also worried about the vibrations - I really want to go on holiday but don't want to do something silly

Ha ha actually had bought new trousers before I found out about pregnancy and am now wearing my old pair from the rally days when I was a couple of sizes bigger

I went out on my ohs 1150gs adventure until my 20 week scan. I stopped then as I couldn't lift my leg up high enough to throw it over the top box (I'm sure you know what I mean!)

I didn't know I was pregnant until 7 weeks and had previously been out on it. As my husband said it's not different to being in the car.

Emma x

Personally I'd go Hun, you trust your oh and he's going to be super careful :)
The baby is protected against vibrations etc I can't see that being an issue and def not the noise. Enjoy your holiday Hun it may be your last for a while well until you get a side car lol

Bet your glad you didn't throw those leathers out lol
Xxx

So long as you don't come off I'd say you'd be fine baby-wise... Just might not be too comfy for you :) Although at only 9 weeks you'll probably be fine :) My OH has a bike (gawd knows what it is - I'm a car girl lol) and I've been hopping on and off the back of that :) x

Thanks for getting back to me ladies - feel a bit better now about going - we had to cancel by Friday or we would lose 50% so had to make my mind up this week - I cant wait cause as you say will be my last big trip for a while plus last trip away alone with OH - might as well make the most of it :)

Enjoy Hun, post some piccies up when you get back I'm very jealous, I've got nothing booked this year :( x

Think you will be fine during tri 1 long as your leathers fit! Only thing that would concern me as I always need to wee a lot when I ride, duno if it's the cold air or vibrations but combine that with pregnancy I'd be wetting myself lol! We both sold our bikes not so long ago so not had this to worry or think about myself. Have a good holiday and enjoy while you can x

 I had a 125 Vespa, not quite a powerful motorbike but quite nippy all the same...had an accident in Nov '10, not my fault, it was a car pulling out of a side street who wasn't paying attention :wall2: and unbeknown to me, I was pregnant at the time! I was lucky. I just sold my Vespa a matter of weeks ago there as it kinda shook me up that I'd had the accident whilst pregnant, and I couldn't bring myself to ride it.

However, a friend who was pregnant used to go on the back of my OHs Suzuki 1000 when we all went out for a ride. Her OH was just learning to ride so couldn't take a pavillion rider and she was fine and her DS is near 2 now.

It just depends on how comfortable you feel being a pavillion rider whilst pregnant. You may need to make more loo stops than the norm

I won't get on the back of my OHs Suzuki as...and this is most likely the daftest reason ever, but I can't shake it...I'm scared that the vibration of the bike will cause baby to vibrate causing problems...plus with my belly now, there is zero mission of me swinging my leg up and over

If you're worried, I'd have a chat with your MW or GP and see what they'd recommend. If you decide that you don't wana take the bike, can you change the ferry booking and take a car instead? Not as much fun though eh? I miss my two wheels!

Hope you enjoy your hols whatever you decide. x

Saw the MW this morning and she said she cant see any reason why I couldn't go - so after all the positive responses on here and what she said I am def going - can't wait :) Used to have a 600 Hornet myself and had my bike test way before the car test so I love bikes - went out on Sunday for a ride and with the top box on it is comfortable enough - tried it without the top box and that is a no go - I actually think OH is more worried than I am about the trip

That's brilliant. Hope you have an awesome time!! x
