Im trying to get my LO to nap, hes tired but hes just not going down, Im too tired to think straight, how long do I leave him cry?! What do I do if I go in?!

Also he has a cold today and I just want to cuddle him to sleep in my arms but with our current sleep problems I dont want to introduce another bad habit!

Dont cuddle him in your arms!!! As tempting as it is!

Leave him between 5 and 10 mins (however long you feel comfortable with)

Go in, put your hand on his chest, lay him down if she's stood/sat up

Say night night, bedtime, sleeptime. Whatever you say.

Leave room

Leave it the same amount of time and repeat.

It worked really really well for me. X

I feel like the cruelest mother int eh world, I went up there cos he was getting a bit hysterical (!) and he had tears down his face and was frantically signing 'milk' at me. Hes downed 6oz and fallen straight asleep. PHEW! I feel like crap now!

We did this too, only I wouldn't leave AJ to cry for 5 mins, just a minute or two.
I did this during the night and bedtimes. I also had a projector which helped settle him.

Nap times he used to go in his buggy. He was that used to napping on me, at the beginning I used to rock the buggy. In the end I would put him in and leave him and he'd nap no bother.

hes just started up again.... *sigh*

gosh that mustve been hard work!! thanks for the inspiration, its all well and good readingthese books but its so much more reassuring to hear other parents saying it has worked for them. I think tonight LO is going to bed without a dummy, we'll have a long evening but fingers crossed we'll crack it!

Aww, bless him.
Your not cruel at all. xx

Does he settle straight away when you give the dummy back?
I'm assuming he wakes when he loses it.

yeah he falls straight to sleep as soon as its in his mouth!

Don't beat yourself up, us mums aren't mind readers! Hugs x

hes coughing cos hes crying so much, 2 minutes to go....

oh yes! When we're all exhausted its just so easy! Its like having an off button

How was he? I use the calpol nasal spray on Emily before she goes for a nap, it really really helps x

he was covered in snot  poor thing! Hed dropped his dummy out the cot, this is what happens at night too. OH suggested we buy loads of dummies and fill his cot with them so whenever he wakes there is one to hand! he was joking but Im starting to find the idea appealing!
