bang on half past nine zach starts being an absoloute nightmare, he moans and cries, won't take his dummy, won't have a cuddle. the only thing that settles him is being on the boob, which i don't mind... if it would settle him and then he'd go to sleep! but, he fusses from half 9 and will not go to bed before half 12. last night he got himself so tired & frustrated that he didn't fall asleep til quarter to 3.
you have to be cuddling him and touching his face, he will not fall asleep on his own. i'm sure he's teething (stops crying in the day when he gets bonjela, chewing his hands, red cheeks, dribble machine!) and my best friend said when her son was teething she gave hm calpol at night and gradually gave the dose earlier and earlier until her son was in bed at half 8.

is that a silly way of doing it? i don't mind him going to bed at half 12 really, because he sleeps until midday (bliss  !!!) but i just hate all the crying and fussing at night when he's so blatantly tired! any advice?

i wouldnt really recomend giving calpol everynight if hes not poorly hun,
maybe every other night and not the full dose id give half the recomended dose for his age.
have you tried a teething necklace? and the powders? oh and some gel?
xx

eeek I would not recommend giving medicine every night - even when they are ill it says to seek medical advice after 3 days. What your friend is doing is drugging her baby to get him in a routine!!!!

Boob babies quite often have fussy periods at night/early evening (see here for more advice). It will eventually pass. But if you want to get your son into a routine then perhaps introduce a night time routine - i.e. play, bath, massage, boob, bed. I would keep it at his noprmal time first until he gets into the routine, then gradually bring it forward by half an hour every week unti;l you have him going to bed at the time you want.

yeah, i did think it was a bit much, but she said her OH does it for an easy life
i've tried baby bojela which helps sometimes, when it actually gets to his gums rather than him just eating it!

baths really waken him up so we tend to give it him early evening about 6pm. bedtime routine tends to be living room lights off, put him in his sleeping bag, feed, cuddle, bed. but he has to fall asleep in my arms or he won't fall asleep.
