I am mom, not cos I is American, but because growing up my mom was mom, her mom was her mom etc etc - so its normal to me. DH calls his mum, mum...so its nice and confusing really.

I'm a brummie, would be interested to see if any other brummies are moms? I wonder if it might be a midlands thing?

im a brummie :D

Yeah course. My mums name is Ann and my dads name is Robert aka Bob. We grew up calling them by their names because they wanted us to. The reason is that they called us by our names, not daughter. I can see where they were coming from but I would've liked to have called them mum and dad. I could never call them mum and dad now, it would seem too weird. We want Isaac to call us mum and dad. My parents weren't even stoners when they had us, they were mods  I could understand if they were hippies

I can see their reasoning.

When I was a kid our next door neighbours children didn't call them mum and dad they called them by their names and i thought it was so cool. I tried it once with my mum and she hit the roof!!

I'm not sure i'd like George to call me Emma though I like being called Mum.
