Ok - after all these posts asking advice on what types of things to buy, i decided to start drawing up a list of what kinda stuff we'll need.

OMG where the hell do you start!!!

My list is HUGE already.

Then there's all the choices -

does it need to be new (yes ok that sounds snobby)
Is it too early
How do i decide on the best one/value
will i actually use it.
Do i leave some of this to allow other people to buy presents.

I'm actually making myself feel sick here.

I know its probably hormones but i actually just wanna sit and cry now!!

How did everyone else start preparing??

It's so hard especially when there are so many different varieties of everything, you just don't know which is best. The way I have dealt with it is. First off make a list of everything you need and tick it off one by one. Just buy things at a time too, to spread the cost a bit. Luckily my family has been quite forthcoming and said I'll get you this and have worked it out amongst themselves. But if no one offers I'd just buy it yourself, if someone offers to buy you something and you've already bought it at least you can refer to the list and say well we already have that but we do need this if you would like to help.
Oh and read reviews :)

Aww it is sooo scary, my list is mahooosive too. Ploughing through it very slowly, still not got a lot of the big stuff yet like a cot or anything, only 11 weeks left to get it all  lol xx

I have to admit - i tend to over think things sometimes - which is making matters worse.

Like for example - sterliser - im like - ok - i wanna BF -

but should prob get one for expressing or incase that plan doesnt work,
dont wanna spend too much cos if BF works wont use it often
So do what type to I get - electric/steam ??
Is a steriliser one of those things that should be new if possible??

No imagine that I'm doing this for my ENTIRE list! oops. Baby brain means decision making is even more runbbish than it normally is.

You'll be fine

I posted my list on another thread earlier

The best thing to do is, apart from the big/expensive items, buy the smaller things like, packs of clothes, nappies, baby bath - once a week ask yourself how much you can afford each week/month & buy whatever you can with that amount. Then tick off your list as you go along. Dont start off by looking at the list, decide what you have to spend & then have a look at the list & see what items you can get for that amount, or have a look at shops for offers within that budget. Most of the baby shops are online so its easy to see what the offers are, even getting a pack of sleepsuits 1/2 price can make a big difference. It depends how much time you have to put into shopping as well, coz if you look about enough you can get everything cheap-ish.

I'd say majority of things can be bought second hand apart from the mattresses.

:)

Thanks littlemiss, I read your list, was definitely helpful.

re the breastfeeding i just bought a microwavable steraliser and bottles the avent ones they were around 10 quid each in half price sale as i was the same i didnt wanna feel if i couldn breastfeed that i had no other option i will buy some formula in too just in case.

I've had no problem in having 2nd hand items, whether they be through family and friends or the internet. Altho there have been some things I've wanted brand new.

xx

My first list I went through a mothercare catalogue and picked everything I wanted. It gave me an idea of the products. I've barely brought anything from there as now when I see a bargain from the list I get it!
