Need to vent! I had sugar in my wee at two midwife appointments so they sent me for a GTT and indicated this needed to be done promptly. I didn't get an appointment for the test until a week and a half later (so hardly urgently) and was given no advice about diet in the mean time. I researched this myself and have been eating as though I have gestational diabetes just in case. I was told my results from the test would take 3-4 days. Over a week later I'm still waiting! OK so there's been a bank holiday...but still!

I have been ringing the midwives since yesterday morning and left three messages but no one has got back to me with my results! Even if they're not back yet I would expect a call to let me know out of courtesy. I'm stuck in a limbo not knowing if I have diabetes or not. I've not been able to eat anything nice for weeks and I've had a birthday and Easter when I would have loved to indulge a little if my results were negative! I'm also worried that I could be harming my baby some how if I do have diabetes. I'm due in 3 weeks and can't imagine that I'll get much support before baby comes if its taking this long for everything. Ive read I might not be able to have a water birth if i have GD and could need to be induced early. Just feeling very let down and kept in the dark.

Grrrrr. Not sure how else I can get my results!

On top of this I've not seen the same midwife twice and blood test results have been lost previously. Anyone else had similar experiences?

That's not very good. I don't suppose there is much you can do but keep ringing though. I left a message for the midwives a couple of weeks ago too and they never got back to me at all!

If you're eating sensibly anyway it wouldn't be a problem I'm sure, it's just annoying not knowing.

Hope you find out asap and it's good news x

I had the test Saturday and got results on the tues even tho monday was bank hol so it really shouldn't take long! I rang the unit in the hospital directly for the results x

Eating sensibly but really want a piece of cake - think this might be why I'm so grumpy!! Also my mum had GD and lost a baby at 8 months. Not sure if it was connected but freaks me out.

The health centre I went to said my results went directly to the midwives so I'm not sure they'd have the results. Might try if I don't hear anything today.

I waited over a week for my letter with a follow up appointment telling me I had GD (thursday before bank holiday) and then didnt have the appointment until yesterday (2 weeks after GTT) to find out the results. I am borderline thankfully but still got to monitor.

I would ring the hospital you are booked in with as ask to speak to the Diabetic Midwife. Each hospital or at least trust should have one and they will be able to see everything on the system so can give you results and advice. x

I would ring the hospital directly. I'm having my baby in a different area to where I live so my community MW has nothing to do with the hospital. I found with my first baby that results generally didn't get fed back to me unless there was a problem and then the hospital would ring or send a letter rather than going through my midwife. There should be some one at the day unit or clinic to speak to you there and then (usually is at my hospital anyway!)

I would ring your gp surgery, any swabs or blood ive had taken at the hospital my doctors have had the results. Completely cut the midwifes out of the equation. Xx

I totally understand that it's unacceptable for the midwives not to return your call, but usually with the GTT, no news is good news. I've only had my results today, 6 weeks after the test. I casually asked my MW if it was ok as I'd heard nothing and she confirmed it was fine.

If you really want the cake have it :)

I had the test last Thursday and was told that the hospital would ring if there was a problem with the result and they would be ringing yesterday. I would give the hospital a call hun

That's not very good that the midwife is not returning your calls. I'd keep calling until they eventually answer you and each time state what number call your on!

I had my test at 28 weeks on a Monday, had phone call Tuesday morning to confirm I had GD and was in diabetic clinic Tuesday afternoon getting my kit etc, with an appointment to see the consultant for the following Monday. So my experience was pretty positive and quick. It's very annoying how differently each trust works when the end goal is the same for everyone.

Thanks for the advice ladies. I ended up just calling my GP who told me the test came back as normal. Still no return call from the midwives though.... Now for cake...!

Enjoy that cake!! Although my results were normal I'm still trying to cut back on sugar as levels still high to have shown up in urine but I cannot for the life of me cut out chocolate completely!! It's not the sugar I crave it's the actual choc taste so can't sustitute for fruit or whatever they suggest! Obv if there were risks to the baby I would... But for now... Easter eggsssss
