Midwife phoned

I had an appointment for next Tuesday, but the midwife phoned and she said as its just a formality we could go through things over the phone instead. Brief history given, but I have a double whammy of sorts if you like - I have an under active thyroid which midwife said I will be seen to more often PLUS my previous pregnancies were premature which also means I need to be seen to more often, she said I will need to see a consultant at about 9-10 weeks and monthly after that !
Now I knew I would have had to be seen cos of the prem but whats up about under active thyroid and needing to be seen to often ?? Anyone know ? Thanks
