I'm going for a membrane sweep on Saturday if baby doesn't arrive before...

Can anyone share their experience of them please?
Did it work? Did it hurt? Advice etc?

Thank you xxx

I had 2 sweeps as went over due

First sweep I had was just before my due date, second was in the hospital 4 days overdue.

Both very different. The first one was fine, just a bit of prodding really. I did feel alot of cramp later that night and actually thought it would start things off. It didnt.

Second sweep was much sorer, I think she was digging for gold in there, but she got my cervix kind of efaced. So when it did eventually come to labour time, I do always think myself that the sweeps helped although they didnt actively bring on labour.

However, there are lots of ladies on here having sweeps and lose their plugs etc - just depends how favourable your cervix is.

Wishing you luck. Oh and its over like in a couple of mins. Dont be scared.

C xxx

I've had two sweeps. They are painful/uncomfortable and you can bleed afterwards. I got my second sweep a few hours ago and feeling cramps with tightening but not sure if it will progress into anything

I had a sweep with my second when I was 4 days overdue. It definitely worked I had him the next day.

The midwife did the sweep at the doctors and when I wiped I was bleeding I was pretty shocked to see this but it's common.

I'd take a pad or panty liner to put on straight after just in case.

I'm having one next Wednesday xx

Thanks girls... I'm praying it gets things going! I only have til January and then I go back to work so the sooner baby comes the better, I want as much time with him/her as I can! I Don't wana waste time by going way overdue xx

I had one with Blake 4 days before my due date due to high blood pressure. It didn't hurt at all - mildly uncomfortable if anything - and worked!

I was shut like a clam that morning but went into labour that same night. I don't know if it was the sweep, but I reckon it must have helped, as labour didn't seem particularly imminent up until then

Never had one hun, but wishing you labour before then or sweep to work a treat for you on sat xx

I had a sweep this time. Had it on the Thursday my waters went on Sat morning. Didn't go into labour so had to go back on the Sunday morning to be induced. But by the time I go onto the birth suite at 8pm Sunday night I was in labour. Son was born early hours Monday. I will be honest it was quite painful. Good luck :)

I had 3 sweeps with my son, they were uncomfortable but not painful. Sadly, they didn't work for me and I was induced at just under 42 weeks. I think my body just wasn't ready, I know lots of people that have had great results. xx

I had 3 over 2 weeks from 37 weeks as they were trying to encourage baby out asap last time. I didn't find any of them painful. The last one the consultant did was uncomfortable and I went into labour that evening.

I think its only painful if your cervix isn't ready.

Thanks ladies, I'm not sure if baby might come before my sweep, ive had a lot of pains today and lots of pressure... We shall see xxx

I had 3 sweeps over 2 weeks. I found it quite uncomfortabke and painful but apparently it was simply because my cervix was so high and far back. I think it all depends on your cervix. I ended up being induced at 42 weeks and still found it sore getting the pessary in cx

I had 2 sweeps in one week when I went overdue with my daughter but neither kicked off labour sadly. They are not painful as such but they are rather uncomfortable, just breathe through it and you will be fine x
