Does anyone know how long it takes any of the below medications to come out of your system once you finish taking them?

Cipralex
Amitriptylin
Quetiapine

This is definitely a question for your GP. Hopefully not too long eh?

Got an appointment tomorrow but I have a feeling the gp will just say I need to speak with my Psychiatrist. grrr
I have already started the process (naughty I know lol) I have halfed my dose of Quitapine from 100mg to 50mg and Amitriptylin from 20mg to 10mg, I think I may even half again, I just want to be off it all, but I am not sure if the Cipralex is safe to take during pregnancy so do not want to go too far, but maybe I could start halfing that too hmmm.

Hey hun,

Your GP should be able to tell you if it's ok for you to be on these medications but I'm guessing they'll want you to see your psych. Please don't cut down on your own.

As pinkymum said don't cut down on your own. You need to see your GP or Consultant and tell them that you want to come off them to try for a baby. I have had to come off Sulfasalzine, topiramate, pregabalin which took me 4 months and was decreased every two weeks. If you come off them too quickly you will have withdrawal symptoms, ie itching all over, not being able to sleep amongst other things. I was also on Methatrexate which was had to be stopped and I have had to wait 6 months for that to come out of my system. These 6 months are up this weekend YAY. I was surprised though at what medication you can stay on. It may be that you do not have to come off everything just have a lower dose. I am still on some of mine. You really need proper advice from GP/Consultant as you will also need to be monitored during your pregnancy. Good look with it all.

:( Saw gp today she has said that it states not to take them through pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh risk so I have said that I do want to try being drug free for as long as I can and see if I can cope with it, she has reffered me to the obstetrician so should get an appointment in the next few weeks, I am booked in to have my blood test to check for Rubella next Friday.
She has asked me to not activley try to concieve until I have seen both the obstetrician and my psychiatrist.
But I think I have decided that no matter what the psychiatrist says about the medication I am going to try being drug free and see how I do, obviously if my OCD etc gets really bad then I will reconsider, but I am not going to put my baby at risk through my own selfishness.

You'll get there hunni, it might feel like a long time but it'll go in quicker than you know it. You need to make sure you're well enough without meds before having a baby because if you aren't well you're baby will suffer too

Take care

I recalculated and have shaved off 3 days so 37 days today!!
I know, you are right, I want to be well but I just want so badly to be able to start trying!! :wall2:

It will go a lot quicker than you think. When I was first told I had to wait 6 months I thought it seemed like a lifetime away but it has actually come round a lot quicker than I expected. Good luck!

I calculated it wrong... I was going by the highest dose but when I stop it, I will no be on the highest dose...
So 28 days today!! Still too long for me but it is a lot less than it could be! :)

Thankyou Pinkymum!! I am thinking this may well be what I actually need! Having a baby will give me reason, hope and keep me busy! I know it is not going to be easy but I will love our baby so much and I think it may be the answer. :)
