Hello all,

I'm 28 weeks, and finally saw the midwife today for the first time since 16 weeks (baby no.2) and as expected, I am measuring ahead. I measure 33 weeks, so 5 weeks ahead. I know that fundal heights are notoriously unreliable, and depend on the measurer, but I am confident that she is correct, ans that baby is big, as movements feel huge , and my bump is very stretched and tight. My daughter was 9lbs, so a bigger than average baby seems likely, but try as I might, I can't help be a little worried- my first labour was difficult, and the consultant noted that my pelvis is small (I'm not a skinny girl, but am only 5'2").

I'm being referred for an urgen GTT, and will see the midwife more often now, to be monitored for size, but she said little would be done, other than that.

My daughter was born with forceps in theatre, after becoming stuck, and distressed, and I suffered a haemorrhage, so I was a bit anxious anyway!

Not sure what advise I am after, but it's nice to vent, as my midwife is very blase about it all. :)

Hi
I also had a big 1st baby 9lb 8 1/2 was a forceps delivery with episiotomy! Very traumatic. Had a growth scan with my 2nd and he was measuring on the same line as my son. Was estimated to be 9lb 14 at 42 weeks.
was offered a early sweep at 39 weeks with this pregnancy which sent me into natural labour 2 days after. Baby number 2 was born Monday 1 day before due date natural with no interventions weighing 8lb 1. Had a amazing labour and only a small tear that's totally painless.
so try not to worry they can't tell u exact measures hun.

I've been measuring big throughout my pregnancy. Was in hospital yesterday due to reduced movement. When they did my fundal measurement I'd dropped from41cm to 36cm (since Monday),so they ended up scanning me. At 38+6 baby is estimated to be 7lb 12oz,they say I've got lots of excess fluid which is why I've been measuring big and possibly why I had reduced movement!! Hopefully baby won't get much bigger :-o so it could be excess fluid like me!!xx

I've had this too Hun. I'm 29+4 today and on Tiesday measured 31 weeks when the Friday before I was 29 so I'm not impressed your allowed 2 cm over at least but it does depend on the midwife measuring xxx

I was constantly measuring ahead in my second pregnancy. Like you, my first but was nine pounds when he was born at 41 weeks, so I'd always anticipated my second would be a big baby too.

I had to have a couple of extra scans to check for excess fluid and ended up having three GTTs. The scans and GTTs were all clear, although I was told I was at the higher end of normal for my GTT results. After all my scans I was told I was just having a big baby! I was also told that because my stomach and uterus were stretched from having my first baby, that could make my bump bigger too.

In the end I had a c-section, nothing to do with baby's size though. He was 8 and a half pounds at 38 weeks, so I reckon if I'd had him at 41 weeks like my eldest he would have been about 10lbs!

I measured ahead during my second pregnancy by approx. 4-5 weeks. I did have GD and excess fluid. I had a C-section at 37 weeks and my little boy was 7lb 10oz, so not massive.

Thanks ladies. The midwife is confident it's not fluid, as she says my uterus feels full of baby, and she can feel him/ her very easily. Hey ho, just git to wait for. the GTT now! Xxx

MWs can be wrong about fluid - mine said my bump was all baby but the scan showed a massive pocket of fluid (9cm or something across!). Good luck with the GTT! xx
