Measuring below 5th centile?

Anybody have any experience with this? Went for a private 4D scan Tuesday evening and baby is measuring really small. Waiting to get an appointment to see a consultant. Going by her head, femur and abdominal measurements it says 25 weeks 6 days and I'm 29. Just a bit worried. Been under a serious amount of stress during my pregnancy and I'm terrified it's my fault x

Generally babies will get all they need from you and leave you without so please don't think its your fault. There may be another reason or it could just be that your baby will be small. But they will want to make sure everything is working as it should be.

Try and stay positive. I would assume it would be a way off yet.
Remember you can always refuse/extend until you are happy to go ahead and just be monitored closely.

It could also be that baby will have a super growth spurt and catch up over next few weeks!
No point worrying though keep eating well an baby will have everything they need may just be a little dainty baby.
Wait until you've seen the consultant so you can get a Propper idea of what's going on and stop blaming yourself!! All pregnant women go through stress during pregnancy, some obviously a lot more so than others but but chances are you jut have a small baby and nothing could have or would have changed that xx

Remember the midwives always consider the norm to be within 3 weeks difference of what the average measurements are. So yeah you are at the edge of that, but as others say your wee bubba might just be nice and petite (are you and OH small?)! Try to keep nice and calm, if you are already stressed then you don't need another thing to worry about. Good luck xx

A baby will leach everything it needs from you including the calcium from your teeth and bones leaving you without if it wasn't getting it from your diet

Thanks for all your replies ladies. My first daughter was 7 lb 14 so a good weight. My OH is about 5 ft 11 and stocky I'm 5ft 2 and pretty small so maybe like you said she will be like me. I was a premature baby born 8 weeks early weighing 3 lb 10 x

I had a scan yesterday at the hospital and they did all my measurements. The weight shows as being 10th percentile and have to go back in 2 weeks just to make sure that baby stays on the same growth line. They said that if baby continues to grow at the same rate then probably just destined to be a small baby. It is if the growth starts to decrease that they get concerned.

Hope that maybe when you see the consultant they should offer you extra monitoring and discuss the next steps. At least then you will know what is going on. Fingers crossed everything sorts itself out for you.

(Funny though my OH was born at 32 weeks and weighed 3lb10oz as well.)

OH has two daughters, born at 6lb 11oz and 6lb 8oz.

DS was born bang on 6lb.

I was 5lb 7oz when I was born.


They're scanning me every two weeks now because they're "concerned baby might be small".
According to the plot on the graph at my first growth scan two weeks ago, if she goes to term, she'll be 6lb 6oz when born. :eyeroll:

On the plus side... They're keeping a close eye on you... Much better than finding there was something wrong and they hadn't bothered.
You get to see bubs extra... Yay

They're not gonna take her out unless she actually stops growing and they feel she'll be better out than in. Try not to worry too much, and rest assured, you've done nothing wrong xx

My baby was measuring small all the way through, 4th percentile, we had loads of scans and I was induced at 40 weeks and he wS 7lbs. I think he had a growth spurt at the very end as much bump was tiny until 38 weeks.

No experience as early as you I went for a presentation scan at 37+5 and found baby to be measuring around the 5th centile I was booked in to be induced 2 days later because of this and my raised blood pressure and he arrived a healthy baby weighing 5lb 11oz. He's 2 weeks today and is now 5lb 13oz.
