Measles cases on the increase due to low take up of mmr

Sartet do you mind me asking what your reasons are for not vaccinating? Because it is quite a contentious issue, but as yet I'm not sure where I stand due to the fact that I don't really much about it?

One of Austin's friends had his MMR less than 3 months ago, and has since had Rubella and Measles! So that worked well... apparently they're not completely immune until the pre-school boosters anyway.

Austin's had his but I would never jump on anyone for choosing not to give the jab. Everyone does what they believe is best for their own child/children, and that's how it should be.
The mmr needs to have boosters in order to effectively cover the child from the diseases. If the general population immunised falls below 80% then the diseases are able to spread and all children under the age of 5 are at risk...

measles is serious, it can kill and if you are lucky to avoid death, blindness, deafness and other complications can be the result. http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/m/measles/complic.htm Rubella is dangerous for pregnant women, obviously miscarriage being one... and mumps causes infertility in boys. Currently all autism links have been dis proven so its down to the parents on which risks they wish to take.

Tia didn't have hers, 9 years ago the research was "valid" and after much discussion with my digestive consultant we decided it was best not to risk it (Crohns) but when we came to Spain she got the jabs separately...lil miss would receive the MMR too ... I'd rather risk autism than death any day :)

I wont hesitate to give Tally it, and all other immunisations.

The only thing that annoys me is that some people assume that mothers who choose not to vaccinate are doing so because of the Wakefield research or because they read the headline in the newspapers and are reactig hysterically to it. All the mothers I have spoken to who have chosen not to vaccinate have read about it, read all the research and made an informed decision. They are under no illusions just how dangerous measles can be or the complications that each disease can bring about. At times they have done more research then some (and I highlight some) mums who have chosen to vaccinate their children.

I don't care what people think of my decision as I know I am doing what I believe is right, and I am costantly re-evaluating this everytime new research comes to light. What I do object to is being made out to be an hysterical mother who is prepared to risk her childs life.

hey hun - TBH its my gut instinct as a mother that has mostly led me to my decision. also the person who brought up the autism link (I KNOW IT ISNT PROVEN) how would they get that out of nowhere?

also kids didnt have the vaccines when my parents where kids and they did get the diseases and have a FULL immunitiy to it for life now because they have contracted it naturally the jabs are jubs like a temp thing until the top up. IN MY OPINION THIS DOESNT JUSTIFY THE CHOICE AT 13 MONTHS.

also in MMR jabs they have small amounts of mercury which as many know can effect the brain

it also contains lung tissue that is found in a 13 week old aborted feutus.

AND my final point Tony blair has not had ANY of his children vaccinated. WHY????

MUST SAY THOUGH : ALL MY OPINION! :D and facts!!!

I completely understand that any mother would put the welfare of her child first (and certainly wouldn't condemn any mother as hysterical for being careful about any decision Beanie).

I'm 100% sold on vaccinations and there was never a question that Stanley wouldn't be part of the programme.

I do however worry about the immunisation situation. If too many parents (I'm no scientist, NO idea how many that is) opt out it negates the system that has protected children in this country for many years, and some of these truly horrible diseases could return and put ALL our children at risk.

But we live in a democracy, and as individuals have the right of choice.
