Hello

We were shocked to find out 4 weeks ago that we were expecting twins but the midwife couldn't tell whether they were identical or fraternal twins so we were booked in for another scan on Tuesday.

When we had our scan we were told that we were expecting mcda twins - identical!
The midwife had noticed that the one baby was measuring a week behind the other one and also there was fluid at the back of that baby's head and along it's back; a cystic hygroma.

I'm so scared that we are going to end up losing both babies, we have to go and see a specialist tomorrow who will helpfully be able to tell us more. We apparently have a few options, cvs and an amniocentesis.
I just want tomorrow to hurry up so we can know more :(

Thank you, the consultant Said today that there is a high NT reading but he wouldnt actually call it a cystic hygroma, I am so relieved, had the quad blood test today and get the results back Monday.
We have to go back in a few weeks for another scan to see if we want an amniocentesis.

Instead of the amnio ask about the private test, I think they test the same thing, downs? The private test is called NIPT (none invasive prenatal testing) it isn't cheap but we opted for that as it is not invasive and so no risk to the babies. Not everywhere does it but some places also have something similar might be worth asking for any alternatives. The private test I had also tests for four other things which are more serious than downs and means babies don't go full term, thankfully they all came back clear, the private test is also more accurate at 99.9% And is just one blood test. Good luck though, it sounds as though its all ok though from what you've been told already xx fingers crossed x

A lot to deal with there hun- really hope u get answers soon and all ok xxx
